Lindsay Lohan CONFIRMS She Failed Drug Test

LOS ANGELES — Lindsay Lohan has confirmed on her Twitter page that she failed a court-ordered drug and alcohol screening, and she said that if asked, she is ready to appear before the judge in her case and face the consequences for her actions.

In a series of messages posted late Friday, the actress said "Regrettably, I did in fact fail my most recent drug test."

She also said, "Substance abuse is a disease, which unfortunately doesn't go away over night. I am working hard to overcome it." Lohan often posts updates with the account that's verified by Twitter as belonging to the actress.

A person familiar with the case, who declined to be identified because of the sensitivity of the matter, confirmed the positive test results for The Associated Press earlier Friday. The person declined to specify what substance triggered the positive result, which the source said occurred within the last month.

The failed drug test was first reported by TMZ.com.

The test result could mean a probation violation and more jail time for the 24-year-old actress. In July, Lohan was sentenced to three months in jail followed by three months in rehab after violating probation stemming from a pair of drug and driving under the influence cases filed after two arrests in 2007.

She ended up serving two weeks in jail and another 23 days in an inpatient rehab treatment at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center.

At a hearing last month, Fox ordered the actress to attend psychotherapy, drug and alcohol counseling as well as random drug and alcohol testing several times a week. Compliance would allow her to return to unsupervised probation in November.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Elden S. Fox had threatened Lohan with 30 days in jail for each probation violation.

A hearing would be conducted before Lohan could be returned to jail. Los Angeles County District Attorney spokeswoman Sandi Gibbons said no such hearing had been scheduled as of Friday afternoon.

This is recidivism, and it is extremely common. Most recovering addicts have several relapses before finally getting clean, so why this is supposedly such a shock, or such an opportunity to judge and skewer this woman — shove her face into, as one commenter put it, "her own vomit" — speaks more about the mood and meanness of the commenters than it does about this relapse. I wish her well, and I hope she stays in rehab next time. She needs to.

The Docs and therapists failed her.

Many, many people overcome addiction and go on to have wonderful and productive lives and careers. She may end up dying of it, but she might climb out to greater things. I hope she stays in rehab next time.

Oh Lindsay-the excuses you come up with! I have been recovered for 26 years-I don't make excuses about my addiction. No one foreced me to do the things I did. Much like you I was self-centered and blamed everyone for my little drinking/drug problems. Good thing I am not your sponsor-You would be in alot of trouble. I can see through you BS miles away-Your sick little one and if you don't stop fooling yourself, your family will bury you. Denial is a dangerous thing-it kills more people with an addiction.

Funny she was let out of rehab early supposedly because she was in no way addicted....so now she is failing drug tests and claiming that she has an addiction problem? So then why did the supposed "experts" at the rehab facility let her out so incredibly early?

Jesus, THANK YOU! Just as I'd suspected would happen. And I put far more blame on the doctors and therapists who failed her then I do on this tragic, stuck, likely bipolar, addict.

This isn't news, this is simply a sad life in the spotlight. I feel some shame in even looking, but it seems impossible not to notice and comment. For all those people making comments like "she should die in an alley covered in her own sick" and so on: You are projecting, and it isn't pretty. That, and you're mean. Go do some self work.
