With Oktoberfest now underway, we thought we'd take a quick look at some common sights to see in beautiful Germany. Our friends at National Geographic helped us out with this post; if you want to see more from National Geographic, click here.

Take a look, and if you've been to any of these places, send us your photos!

Ballerinas prepare to hit the stage at a theater in Berlin. In the past decade, an emergence of world-class ballerinas and choreographers has led to a rising interest in German ballet.

Thanks for those images. There are lots of beautiful places in Germany, and I'm glad to see you picked some unusual ones!

PS: If you want to see Germany, skip the Oktoberfest. It's nothing but one big excuse to see thousands of drunk people, smell the results of it, and see nothing of beautiful Munich while at it. Plus - it's not at all typical for Germany, just one big money-making tourist trap.

Honestly - I don't see the appeal of the Oktoberfest. You can get drunk at home, why pay a plane fare and hotels to do it abroad? It's not like anyone would even listen to the music that's played in the tents at home.

To hang out with the wonderful German people and have a new experience. And tell wild stories like the ones I have!

It's not as beautiful in real life. They just try to take wonderful pictures so that tourists are attracted.

You can breathe history at almost every street corner in cities as well as villages. Germany really is as beautiful as those pictures show. That doesn't mean that there are no ugly or industrialized areas, but overall, Germany really is a beautiful country.

Where in Germany have you been to be as negative about the country as a whole?

It totally is that beautiful. I live in Freiburg, in the south near France and Switzerland...the Black Forest area, it has to be some of the most beautiful landscapes and architecture in the world. Like every place, it has its downsides, but picturesque is definitely an applicable term for many parts of Germany.

Germany is wonderful, I lived there for 7 years and am moving back permanently in two weeks. It is green year round. They have actual seasons there, which is a treat for me. I'm a California girl. It's so centrally located, it makes it really easy to hop around to other countries. The food is wonderful and if you like beer or wine, you will be in heaven. On that note, Belgians make the best beer. Oh well... :) Gorgeous architecture, a slower pace of life and really nice people. It's all what you make of it. If you're an obnoxious American, you'll have a horrible time. If you try to speak German and assimilate, you'll never want to leave. I hope you get a chance to go, it's the opportunity of a lifetime.
