Alexander McQueen Tribute Draws Sarah Jessica Parker, Kate Moss & More (PHOTOS)

Kate Moss, Sarah Jessica Parker and Anna Wintour were among those who turned out in London to pay tribute to the late designer Alexander McQueen. A tribute service was held on Monday at St. Paul's Cathedral, the Guardian reports. Elle UK writes that over 2,000 guests were invited and:

The hour-long service featured readings from various high-profile supporters. US Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour read a moving tribute to the designer, mentioning his on/off relationship with American Vogue. Suzy Menkes, fashion and culture editor of The International Herald Tribune, spoke of having never missed a McQueen show. Close friend Annabel Nielson talked of their last Christmas together while Bjork -- dressed as an angel in a gold headdress with wings -- sang Gloomy Sunday based on a Billy Holiday tune. Michael Nyman played harp and a gospel choir sang twice.

The Daily Beast reports
that Anna Wintour was the first to speak, recalling a photo shoot McQueen had agreed to do in the early 90s, only to call at last minute to say "He didn't give a flying 'whatever' about American Vogue."

She added:

"Alexander would infuriate me every year before the Costume Institute Gala," she admitted. "He would accept every year, only to bail at the last minute. But when he finally came, he flew up the stairs with Sarah Jessica Parker, both visions in tartan and plaid, and all was forgiven." She paused. "We always forgave Alexander."

Here are some images from the service:

I see HP used this photo for their "high heels" piece. How very environmental of them. Recycling all those electrons.

Were all or most of the attendees wearing McQueen? That would've been a nice tribute also.

I hope Mr McQueen is with mom and his best mate Isabella Blow and they are all at peace.

Alexander and Izzy were both rare souls who brought personal adornment to the level of art.  I sure miss them both.

She does look gorgeous.  McQueen designed some very distinctive silhouettes and SJP is one woman who can really carry them off!

Sorry to her fans, but SJP looks absolutely ridiculous.

How so? She doesn't look that outlandish and she's at McQueen's memorial who was the king of avant garde. It's appropriate.

SJP's should know that goofy shoes are out -- note those on style queen Kate Moss.

SJP is hard to look at and it's getting harder all the time. Did Stella McCartney comb her hair?
