Room temperature superconductors are the holy grail of physics and chemistry. Ultraconductors, the functional equivalents of ambient temperature superconductors, are patented polymer materials. They have been the subject of four contracts with the Department of Defense. Superconductors can store energy in magnetic fields. These remarkable materials open the possibility of energy storage in electron flywheels instead of chemical batteries.

From a cost standpoint, plastic Ultraconductors will eventually compete with copper. An article in Scientific American once stated: “the advent of a room temperature superconductor would surely initiate a second industrial revolution”.
