Lack of Chicago and Seattle surprises me as well.

San Francisco ranks so highly because it's filled with semi-employed hipsters suckin' down joe on mom n dad's dime. San Jose is only number 15 because down here in the valley we actually do the work that drives the tech industry.

I don't understand what Twitter is or what people are accomplishing when they are twittering. I thought twittering was dressing up like a hipster doofus and parading about the city. But it's a computer program or something?

It depends what you're using it for, a lot of people have their own goals or plans on what they plan to achieve using twitter. Some want to connect with more people on twitter, some connect with other bloggers. Most importantly it is super easy to connect with "popular" people on twitter.

Up to today I've connected with a lot of experts in their own fields who I've read their book.

The opportunity is endless.

With these top data, businesses should start using twitter more efficiently as well.

This list seems flawed. No Chicago? No Seattle? But Sacramento ranked so high and Wilmington, Delaware, made the list? Hmmm.....

Have you been to Wilmington DE? Our social media community is very active and positive. The state even has a Social Media Initiative. Might want to look into it a bit more before being so surprised. =)

I live in Atlanta and we aren't on the list either -- I am assuming some places benefit from using other social media. I personally haven't found much use for twitter other than getting stock checks at Ikea.
Boston is remarkably low on the list, as Boston, San Fran, its burbs, and NYC are usually the top on any tech list -- their universities are the main tech hubs for the country.

NYC and San Fran are actually the top two. They just put them at the bottom to build the suspense.
