Jimmy Carter To Jon Stewart: 'I Occupied The Same Position That The Tea Party Is Now' (VIDEO)

First Posted: 09/21/10 12:04 PM ET Updated: 05/25/11 06:45 PM ET

For his new book, "White House Diary," jimmy Carter uncovered 40 topics in his personal diaries that bothered the former president while in office, which he believes now upset President Barack Obama 30 years later. Carter discussed these topics, as well as current politics and the Tea Party, with Jon Stewart on "The Daily Show" last night.

"Things have gone downhill, I think, in the last few years with the polarization of our country," said Carter. "With the evolution of a new kind of politics, with the birth of Fox News, which now distorts everything rather than telling the truth."

Carter commented that at the time when he wrote his diaries, "I occupied the same position that the Tea Party is now. I rallied against the establishment, I rallied against a Washington that was in disgrace."

Still, Carter was sure to note: "I'm not completely compatible with Tea Party -- I haven't been involved with witchcraft."

"You're only 85 -- give it time," Stewart responded.

Carter was a good President - His failing was that he tried to be inclusive to the crooks that ran the GOP back then, they of course stabbed him in the back (like so many other Americans, that get Swift Boated) - the evil that is Republican Party would rather make deals with terrorists (arms for hostages in Iran) and the Republicans should never get a pass on how they supported the Ayatollah and then Saddam Hussein - nice pix of Bush and Saddam and Dick with the Saudis and Rummy with the Saudis, Iraqis and Iranians - yeah, the Republicans are two-faced liars - haven't changed. The Republicans supported terrorists before they turn on us.

Yeah - Fox likes to blame Jimmy Carter for the Nixon/Ford Debacle - meanwhile the RNC was making back door deals with Iran - arms for hostages, committing treason and making deals with the same guys they displaced under Bush (Hussein, et. al.). The Republicans idea in the middle east was to let them kill themselves - they gave arms to both countries that are being used against us today. That is Reagan/Bush2 legacies. Lies, lies, lies, war, war profiteering. The reward for betraying your country. You become an analyst on Fox. The Republican Propagandist and revisionist history narrative. Ollie North, G. Gordon Liddy, and so many other crooks of the Reich Wing.

I love it, that he slammed fox, because they consistantly say that Obama is the worse president ever, followed by Carter being a close second, but of course they hail Reagan, and GW as innovative and In Bush's case claim that he finally had the balls to attack terror, there before they attacked again here. Its amazing how they are so deluded. I cant wait to see the excuses they make for O'Donnell and her withcraft, by the way doesnt anyone realize that Palin herself spent time with a Witchdoctor, I mean c'mon why arent we using these things against her, like she uses Rev Wright against Obama

My favorite line ["With the evolution of a new kind of politics, with the birth of Fox News, which now distorts everything rather than telling the truth." ] - I love it every time someone gets a jab in on Faux News!!!! I just wondering how come no one is paying any attention to it....we should be reading "Jimmy Carter Slams Fox" everywhere. :-(

President Carter is an amazing human being- most president play golf after they leave office. Carter, on the other hand, rolled up his sleeves and began to build houses for the poor, founded the Carter Center, has engaged in countless nations to help end human rights abuses, provide health care, food, housing, monitor elections, promote elections, negotiate the release of prisoners form nations like North Korea, etc.

He has managed to author many critically aclaimed books - both non-fiction and fiction and, at age 86, still retains a great sense of humor.

Its funny how they attack him on Faux, but when Bush needed someone to negotiate with hostiles they sent him. His thinking was well ahead of its time, On issues such as reducing spending, smaller government, and of course healthcare and decriminalizing Marijuana. Of course he was demonized for all of those things, Isnt ironic that the last 2 presidents to lower government spending were both democrats(Carter,Clinton) But yet the conservatives still claim that they are the fiscally responsible party. Since Mr Carter left office the top income earners in the US have seen their wages increase by 300%, in the same time the rest of us have only recieved 43% in wage increases, AND THEY TALK ABOUT US USING SOCIAL WARFARE AGAINST THEM?

Carter was also ahead of his time on energy. He was sounding the alarm over 30 yrs ago for the need to conserve energy and find alternative sources. Americans did not want to hear about conservation or sacrifice so many turned on him for telling an unpleasant truth.

He established the Dept of Energy .

The guy who followed him singing "morning in America" ironically ushered in the beginning of America's demise with his trickle-down policies for the rich, class warfare against the middle class, and deregulation.

1980 was when we stopped being a democracy and got on the road to oligarchic corporatism.
