Jodie Foster Stands By Mel Gibson

Jodie Foster has been good friends with Mel Gibson since they worked together on 'Maverick' in 1994, and that won't change because of his ugly racist rants taped by his ex, she tells MORE magazine.

Foster describes Gibson as the "easiest, nicest person I've ever worked with... The second I met him, I said, 'I will love this man for the rest of my life.'"

She and Gibson collaborated most recently on 'The Beaver,' a movie about a suburban husband (Gibson) who talks through a beaver puppet on his hand. Foster directed the film and costars as his wife. A release date has not been announced.

"When you love a friend, you don't abandon them when they are struggling," Foster told MORE. "Of course, Mel is an undeniably gifted actor and director, and 'The Beaver' is one of his most powerful and moving performances. But more importantly, he is and has been a true and loyal friend. I hope I can help him get through this dark moment."

Alcoholism is a disease, get it? I can't believe more of the millions of alcoholics in this country are not defending Mel more vociferously. The idea that people speak their true feelings when loaded is a fallacy. When people are loaded, their actions are schizophrenic, crazy, etc., at least if one is an alcoholic. Grow up people

You know what..? Mel gibson said what he said, and at least was honest about it. I am black, but was not awe struck by the comments. I did think they were odd considering his 3 movies with Danny Glover. In any case, at least he was honest about his opinions. I would preferr that than the racist politicians who make our laws and rules. they say racist things, and then apologize when called on them, and all is forgiven. Most are playing to racists, but no one cares (ala Tea Party). Mel Gibson is the least of a minorities problems. At least his racism and white sheets are exposed to be seen, and he doesnt have power over anyone or group.

Just watched Maverick again last week on, i believe, TNT. just a good fun little film.

i actually have wondered what Jodie felt about the whole rant etc etc.

i take her at her word but would REALLY want to hear what danny glover (who has a cameo in maverick) has to say.

Unfortunately, Jodie may have ulterior motives that mean $$$. If her movie doesn't do well because people are boycotting Gibson, it isn't the best situation for her.
