NRSC Donated $42,600 To Norton Four Days Before She Lost Primary Bid

Jane Norton

Four days before District Attorney Ken Buck scored an upset victory in the Colorado Senate Republican primary, the campaign committee charged with electing Republicans made a $42,600 donation to his opponent, Lt. Governor Jane Norton.

The disbursement by the National Republican Senatorial Committee, made on August 6, was the largest allowed by law and provides yet another indication that the party establishment was wary of Buck's chances in a general election contest.

The committee has lost a host of primary contests this election cycle but, in many of them, it largely shielded itself from incurring financial losses by not making major investments. The one major exception would be Gov. Charlie Crist in Florida, whom the committee sent $10,000 before he bolted the Republican Party. The NRSC, since then, has donated heavily to Marco Rubio, the Republican candidate in the Florida Senate race,

Following Buck's primary win on August 10, the NRSC fully embraced the Tea Party backed Republican, though they did not donate to his candidacy during the August fundraising period, according to the campaign donation reports (September donations have not yet been reported). Buck, meanwhile, remains positioned fairly well in public opinion polls in his contest against one of the Democrats' most-endangered incumbents: Sen. Michael Bennet.

A spokesman for the NRSC did not immediately return a request for comment but it is also worth noting that the committee is already on air in Colorado and has reserved more than $3 million in television advertisements for Buck -- among the most for any candidates so far this cycle.

Below is a copy of the donation made to Norton.

They might want to work on their timing unless allowing the GOP to be defeated was the plan.

I thought the Republicans were against wasteful spending? They sure are wasting a lot of money on looney candidates, so is that how they will govern our money if elected?

And look what happens when the Democrats get a primary candidate they don't like. Alvin Greene was attacked and vilified by his own party

Because he's a joke. His "win" is the fishiest thing I've seen in politics in a long time. In my view, he's not a legitimate candidate. He's an accident.

Question: Does the Democratic Party also pick and choose which primary candidate they will support? Is the GOP acting any differently, except that they have an uprising on their hands threatening their establishment? If Code Pink began a huge grassroots movement and foisted political candidates on to the Democratic scene I expect they would be dealt with harshly.

...except...except...the Dems never seem to pick complete fringe ReT@rd$ like those darned stewpid ReThugs...! It seems The Twit's family tree is spreading through the Party...

Yes, they do. Both parties usually offer financial support the primary candidate they believe has the best chance to win the general election, or has the longest track record with the party.
10:27 PM on 09/22/2010
So the fact that the Republican Party is not throwing money to Tea Party candidates is not really an expose. Like any grassroots campaign they will have to earn their power. No news here except that the Democrats would much rather have the old stupifyingly boring Republican Party (with some fun scandals thrown in) than an energized Tea Party Movement to run against.

From my perspective we are attempting a hostile take over of the Republican Party. We the silent majority want to reform the party from Democrat light, to the Constitution heavy party.
09:50 PM on 09/22/2010
Exactly. The Republican Party has become corrupt and lost it's base voters.

By handing social security over to Wall Street (talk about a bailout), by ending medicare (talk about pulling the plug on Grandma), by allowing people on the no-fly list to carry guns onto planes, by hands off food and drug inspections, by invading Iran, by redistributing more wealth to corporations by lowering wages and benefits or workers (improved productivity), by removing all oversight of mortgage lending and credit card issuers, by forcing victims of rape and inces to bear the children of their attackers, by reducing the numbers of teachers and firefighters, by turning our health care over to the insurance companies, by shooting people you don't agree with (reload those grannie grizzlies), by harassing citizens who aren't just like Newt Gingridge and Sarah Palin. . .

Love those $100 bills. Ask any Republican who his/her favorite president is and he/she will invariably answer, "Ben Franklin!"
09:05 PM on 09/22/2010
And now a bit of irony...

Ben Franklin was one of the first to socialize firefighting. By bagger and GOP standards of today he would be labeled a commie for "Franklinncare" which went much further than Obamacare. Everyone ended up with fire protection at the taxpayers' expense. He spent significant time in France and had relations with French women and wrote a essay on the joys of fornication. This would have also been a big problem with the right.
09:10 PM on 09/22/2010
And now for a bit of irony...

Ben Franklin was one of the first to push for public firefighting crews. "Franklinfirecare" was much worse on the socialist scale than "Obamacare". Everyone had protection from fire at the tax payers' expense. I'm sure the modern GOP and Tea Party would label Ben as a socialist.

Investigate what exactly? No law has been broken. Are you upset that the Republican Party is not doing more to support the Tea Party Movement?
11:08 PM on 09/22/2010
Are you kidding? When is it within the law to pay your condo rent with election money...? And when is it within the law to run for office when you're a debt-ridden, cheater, liar, thug...? People out here in the Real World can't even get ordinary jobs when their credit reports turn up unpaid debt!!!

This proves they don't care about the country. It's party and power first and foremost. These are dangerous people. Vote liberal and progressive, if you want peace and prosperity.

Unfortunately they have power hungry, party first people, too.

Wondering what good was it for the "regular' Republican to get those fund just 4 days short of the primary?    Wouldn't that money have been more useful if it was distributed a couple months earlier?
