David Axelrod Leaving White House In 2011: Will Work On Obama's Re-Election Campaign

Axelrod

White House senior advisor David Axelrod is coming back to Chicago in 2011--where he will work on President Barack Obama's re-election campaign.

A White House aide told the Chicago Tribune that Axelrod will remain in his current position until "well into 2011,'' but then heads back to Chicago, where his wife still lives.

From the Tribune:

Axelrod, who calls himself a "Chicagoan on assignment,'' has long made clear he missed his hometown and would return before the end of the four-year term.

. . .

One of Obama's most trusted aides, Axelrod occupies a small office just steps from the Oval Office. On a wall in Axelrod's office hangs a picture of the White House drawn by his daughter. The Chicago skyline is shown in the reflecting pool.

CBS Chicago reports that Axelrod will likely leave Washington in the Spring, and White House spokesman Robert Gibbs could replace him as senior advisor to the president.

The news of Axelrod's looming departure comes as White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel appears closer to announcing his bid for mayor of Chicago.

Emanuel has been meeting with a number of Chicago politicians about a potential bid after Mayor Richard M. Daley announced that he would not seek a seventh term two weeks ago.

On Wednesday, Rep. Danny Davis told Chicago Public Radio that he was "90 percent sure" Emanuel would run following a meeting with him. On Thursday, the New York Times cited White House sources that predicted Emanuel could leave in "two weeks--or less."

"Axelrod's departure is not connected to Emanuel's prospective mayoral campaign," CBS 2 Chicago reports.

Axelrod worked on President Obama's 2004 campaign for the U.S. Senate in Illinois and was chief strategist for Obama's 2008 presidential campaign. Before that, he was a strategist for late Chicago Mayor Harold Washington as well as Mayor Daley. He also worked as a reporter and columnist for the Chicago Tribune in the late 70s and early 80s.

The DLC is ideologically aligned with Republicans.  It's the old Republican party, before Ralph Reed delivered an organized Christian Right to the Republican Party.  Pro-corporate, anti-populist, pro-war, anti-civil rights, pro-police state, chipping away at privacy rights, abortion rights -- There's no defending that out of any Democrat.

David is probably a nice guy and obviously smart. er..ahh.. uhhh. ehhh.. But he can't ever, ever talk to the press again. Everytime he speaks, er... ehhh.. ahhh. uhhh.. Obama's numbers plunge. His inability to manage a message coming out of the White House is a big part of why Democrats aren't crushing the Republicans in the polls. It's a shame.

Actually, Axelrod might make a good mayor. I would feel more comfortable with him than with Rahm Emmanuel, who seems a bit too abrasive for my taste.

Rahm becoming mayor would be the worst lateral move since Todd Stroger took his dad's place. PLEASE tell me Chicago has more sense than that.

Axelrod, great campaigner, not so great after election. Needed to make the President look stronger and more determined. Perhaps could not believe the lack of cooperation by Republicans on any issue, and the vitriolic, almost hysterical, attacks by Fox, Rush, etc., 24/7. Really hard to swim against such a toxic tide.

Dont blame the republicains for the Obama failure.......when will you people take some responsabilities. You had a majority everywhere so dont blame the opposition. I have notice that the democrats always blame the republicains when they lose a vote but they forget to mention that some of their own people voted "no" ........

Yeah, most of the DIsney employees are now Teabagger candidates.

Looks like most people here don't read the articles before offering their esteemed opinion.

I'll summarize in a sentence:

Axlerod's exit was planned so he can prepare for the re-election, and it won't happen until much later next year.

ANd BTW, he ran a Presidential campaign that garnered the most votes in US history.

As you probably complained about for eight years, the number of votes does not matter, it is all about the electoral college.

how are you considered a "moderator" on this site if you make such bias comments? just because someone doesn't agree with your viewpoints doesn't mean you have to belittle them every chance you get

I can imagine how well Hillary could have done it ! and I mean it ! She would not have used the excuse that she inherited a bad economy, she would have worked hard to make things better, but people fell for the dream, and now are living the nightmare, unfortunately, I am living it too, although I did not vote for the one causing it. Hope that Hillary runs in 2012, and shows everybody that yes, she REALLY can !

You've posted this garbage no less than three times so far. In the article which you claim to have read it said he will likely leave in the spring. Which is not "much later".

And, he has assisted with a failed presidency, ever since. What is your point?
