Give Your Stuff Away Day: Unclutter Your Life On September 25

Free Stuff

On September 25, join people all across America in uncluttering your life by participating in Give Your Stuff Away Day.

The concept is as simple as it sounds: Bring any valuable, unwanted items taking up space in your home out to the curb, where others can benefit from that which you no longer use. Why not let go of those things you no longer have a need for, but have been hesitantly hoarding anyway?

Of course, GiveYourStuffAway.com points out some basic rules that everyone should follow: No trash, recyclables, food, or illegal or dangerous items like drugs, chemicals, or weapons should be placed on the curb. Just haul up all those safe and still useful items collecting dust in your living space.

Mike Morone hopes to establish Give Your Stuff Away Day as a worldwide event twice per year. The event seeks to provide much needed relief from overcrowded landfills, and in a time of economic struggle, can help out those who may get value out of something you no longer use.

So on September 25, drag that clutter out to the curb and take a walk around to see if you find anything useful on Give Your Stuff Away Day.

Check out GIveYourStuffAwayDay.com for more information.

i love it. i gave away a bed, mattresses, tv and two wingback chairs to a friend who was down on her luck. she was soooooooooooooo happy, and i can walk through my basement.

also, i've given away a lot of stuff on freecycle. lots of people can be blessed by the stuff you are tripping over and walking around.

spread some good karma.

I can't help but think of the late great George Carlin when I think about stuff...

Who here is a squirrel raise your keyboard!

Anyone want a perfectly good pair of roller skates? I've lost my key...

What a strange idea given that people do this everyday anyway, whether it's to the thrift shops or curbside. Actually, I see a lot of people having yard sales trying to re-coop their loses. They usually donate the remainder or put a free sign on it.

Why does there always have to be an 'official' day for everything? Sorry, I think it's a dumb idea.

Craigslist lets you post things to give away every day.

I have made use of it many times and have been happy to give my
items to someone that can put them to good use.

We all need to try to look for ways to help out each other.

This is one small way we can make a difference.

I wish there had been some advanced notice of "Give Your Stuff Away" day...I've been downsizing or "de-cluttering" my home for the past 18-months and it's an exhilarating feeling! My life has become simpler and less complicated without all the unnecessary baggage...and I'm discovering that it's easier to be completely organized as the "stuff" disappears. Between the local thrift shops and 1-800-GOT JUNK" it's been relatively easy to dispose of all the unwanted items. There comes a time when you should stop amassing and start dispensing...

Tomorrow morning?

It would have been nice to have an earlier heads up on this.

It's 11:30 pm and I don't have time to go look for something valuable to place on the curb.

I usually post to freecycle or Craig's List. I applaud the attempt to inaugurate a twice a day 'Day'. But a little more advance notice would have been nice. (I also think having it in August would be a better idea for college kids needing to furnish dorm rooms, and again in May after the college kids graduate and have stuff to give away.)

Sell the house.
Sell the car.
Sell the kids.
Find someone else.
Forget it! I'm never coming back. Forget it!

Yes, and that free sofa could end up costing you thousands in extermination fees to get rid of the bed-bugs, currently sweeping across cities of North America.

Upon further reflection; remove the negativity from the above. I'm all for the philosophy behind the project.
However, it is a concern. I'm speaking from experience.
And despite their name: bed bugs - they hide anywhere - beds, sofas, clothing, electronics........I once even found one inside my files, in the file cabinet!

you are making my head itch. STOP.
I, too, have found myself suddenly wanting to stop traveling, stop shopping, stop going to theaters.....they even referenced bed bugs a couple times on SNL last night. I've got the heebie jeebies just typing the word bed bug.
