Ann Coulter To Gay Conservatives: Marriage 'Is Not A Civil Right -- You're Not Black'

Ann Coulter Homocon

Nobody ever said Ann Coulter was going to play nice during her time at Homocon, a summit held by the gay conservative group GOProud over the weekend, not even the organizers who insisted that she be there. Perhaps it came as little surprise to them, then, when the conservative pundit stood before the group of 150 attendees and aggressively railed against gay marriage.

Marriage "is not a civil right -- you're not black," Coulter told the crowd, building upon an argument that claimed the equal protections provided by the Fourteenth Amendment -- and potentially used to build a case for marriage equality -- were only applicable to black people.

Coulter, who was dropped from a recent event by conservative publication WorldNetDaily for her supposed traitorous behavior in headlining the gay event, wasn't done taking social issues to the heart of perhaps the most socially liberal faction within the GOP.

Talking Points Memo's Megan Carpentier on Coulter's speech:

In fact, despite opening her speech with a joke about the difficulty of "coming out" as a fiscal conservative to one's parents -- something she congratulated the attendees on -- Coulter's speech to GOProud mystifyingly focused on social issues and not the fiscal and foreign policy issues that brought most of the attendees there. For instance, she told GOProud that the conservative gay rights movement ought to make common cause with the anti-abortion movement because, she said, "as soon as they find the gay gene, you know who's getting aborted." Coulter also made a forceful case against sex education in schools, accusing liberals of attempting to teach kindergartners about "fisting" (which garnered her a heckler, who shouted out "What's wrong with fisting?") and told the crowd that most parents didn't want their children learning about the "homosexual lifestyle" instead of reading and writing.

But the attendees of Homocon can't say she didn't warn them -- literally.

"I should warn you: I've never failed to talk gays out of gay marriage," Coulter said at the beginning of the speech.

And the organizers of the event didn't seem surprised.

"We didn't invite her here because we agree on everything," GOProud Executive Director Jimmy LaSalvia told the Daily Caller. "We invited her here because we know she gives a great speech and we had a great dialogue on that subject tonight."

As for Coulter, she told the Daily Caller that the gay crowd was actually more receptive to her anti-gay marriage message than they were willing to concede.

"The truth is...they're already against gay marriage, they just wont admit it publicly," said Coulter. "I'm trying to get these gays to come out of the closet."

If I didn't know any better, I would say this guy is a plant to make the GOP look even worse to the mainstream of America.

They do that enough on their own. They don't need a scapegoat for that.

Hate, anger and stupidity are not civil rights eithwer, but coulter and her repub friends continue to bathe in all three.

... she said, "as soon as they find the gay gene, you know who's getting aborted."

Wait, what??

Ok, Ann, I did always think of you as a vile excuse for a human being, but did occasionally think you were the better debater during some of your printed interactions. Now, however, you have completely lost any edge you may have had. Besides being a revolting and crass statement, you have just implied that you believe being gay has biological roots, just as any racial origin, or medical condition does ( i.e. your m.ent.al instability). Yet still you treat it socially as if it should be a pariah's behavior.

So much for your education. You have proven it invalid with this imbeci.l.ic statement. Time to get off the dais for good, and onto a shrink's couch.

As long as marriage is a government administered program with state and national benifits, it is a right for all citizens. Make marriage a religious only matter and take away all benifits associated with it and then it can be denied to anyone. Of course that means that if a spouse is hospitalized you lose all rights associated with determining her/his health care or even the ability to see him/her before she/he dies without the express concent of the dying spouse. This is all about civil rights and how they are being denied on purely religious grounds.

Have you ever noticed how marriage is only "sacred" when gays want it? Non-gays go to Vegas and get married for half an hour, then annulled. They get married on bungee cords and jumping from airplanes, or at Disneyland on a roller-coaster.

Not only that, but if there is some inherent "sanctity" of marriage, why have most conservatives (Congress, Senate, Fox News, etc.) been married more than once? If it's so sacred and "all about the children", why have they engaged in divorce on multiple occasions?

Seems to me that if they want to "save marriage", they should outlaw divorce. However, since they love it so much, I doubt that's going to happen.

I agree with Ahrougnn about gay marriage. It should definitely not be legalized. Marriage is not anyone's right - it is a privelege. The institution of marriage between a man and a woman was established by God for procreation and the love between man and woman. Then union of a man and a woman is the only union in which procreation can take place. We can try play around with that but we can never change it. Only through the union of man and woman can the human race be continued. And God blesses this union as sacred.'
And by the way, I am a homosexually oriented Christian. I have chosen to not act out on those tendencies and try to live in accordance with God's will for me. I lived in the 'gay' scene for a time, and found it to be very empty and shallow. I am happier now than I've ever been because I'm with
God and and can't wait to go to Heaven. We all have crosses to carry - we just have to have the courage to carry them. I have found that my homosexual condition has been a gift because it has brought me closer to God.
Many people talk about 'rights' and freedom when it comes to this subject, but there is no freedom apart from the law of God - only slavery to sin. I hope everyone here can come to know
God as I have.

Marriage is a privilege? Then why can ANY heterosexual couple get married regardless of their past track record, including death-row inmates? Why are they afforded a privilege over law-abiding gay and lesbian people.

As for procreation, there are many unions of man and woman in which procreation cannot take place: in cases of sterility, elderly people, couples who choose NOT to bear children. Marriage in this nation has never been predicated on the ability or intention to procreate.

Good luck with your homosexual repression and religion. I can't wait for you to go to heaven, either. Please make it soon.

Marriage was established to join property. It was called a sacrement of God so no one could argue about who the land was going to. You may know God, but you don't know the history of man.

How can any LGBT person have anything to do with the Publican party? I've seen it since the seventies and NEVER understood it. I can only see it as traitorous to all other LGBT brothers and sisters.

And spare me the line about changing the party from within. Things have only become worse for LGBTs in and through that party since Log Cabin came into existence!! Give it up; it hasn't worked isn't making any difference now!!

The Publicans richly deserve isolation in their ever-decreasing demographic. GOProud and Log Cabin, do yourselves and the rest of us a favor: abandon your support for these misguided people.

Don't see it as traitorous, see it as pitiful. These people are so confused because they live in the heart of red country have have been verbally, mentally, and physically bashed into thinking that they are the problem. I'd almost go on to say that anyone supporting the GOP has been raised in such a toxic environment that it is no wonder that they only care for themselves and not their fellow man. We know this is not totally true because the leaders are simply selfish rich white boys. LGBT republicans must surely live in a special kind of h3ll.

It is pitiful. I was raised in the South, but I didn't swallow the propaganda whole and ask for seconds!

If she is, she gives all of us transgender people a bad name... just like the Log Cabin Republicans and this GOProud group.

Though, for future reference, "tr@nny" is a derogatory term and we'd rather you not use it in the future... especially as an insult.

Yep… talk about going to a party where you aren't wanted.
10:05 AM on 09/30/2010
Yea, talk about shooting yourself in the foot, not to mention a streak of self-loathing. I mean, who do they think they're kidding? I predict that the Republican Party, if America smartens up, is going to dismantle and fizzle out of existance within the next few voting cycles. They're out of touch with their base. They're out of touch with America. It's only a matter of time before everyone sees that they only care about the rich and "guanopsychotic" Christian groups that have lost touch with reality. It's only a matter of time...

The argument against the right to gay marriage is like the argument against the right to inter-racial marriage: the ONLY argument is 'tradition' & bogus claims 'societal structure'.
