20 Funny, Old School & Mildly Depressing Tourism Boards (VIDEO)

First Posted: 09/28/10 09:26 AM ET   Updated: 05/25/11 06:50 PM ET

We've never found tourism ads particularly helpful in swaying our decision to travel somewhere. That said, it seems as though tourism boards pour a ton of money into making their respective destinations seem appealing.

Some tourism ads are purposefully funny and some...not so much. We've put together a few of our favorite intentionally and unintentionally funny commercials as well as some commercials that will prove to be a blast from the past (hello, Paul Hogan).

Ok, we this ad makes Tulsa look awesome, but sadly P.F. Chang's is a chain, so no points to them.

Aaah the eighties, when the hair was high and white people got invited to formal Mexican weddings, whilst dressed like lost extras from "Miami Vice".

"Come to Australia, we won't let you leave."

The Epcot commercial wasn't bad!! I remember that so vividly because I was 8 and I went to Disney World for the first time that year.....How innocent those days were! :)

Oklahoma should add "OklaSTUPID" to their ad. Given the way that state has treated its American Indian population over the years, it's downright insulting to see them trying to use the Indian culture to lure tourists.

it wasn't directly for tourism but I once saw an ad on CNN international advertising Angola. Seemed interesting but I don't think I'd vacation there.

I liked the one from Newfoundland. But then again, I'm from there...

Nevertheless, their latest tourism ads are fantastic, showcasing what travelers come here to see.

What is P.F. Chang's? I've been to Tulsa a hundred times and have never seen P.F. Chang's. Tulsa is similar to Dallas except it's smaller and has more art deco. The University Club building is an interesting throwback to the 60's. I saw a working concrete drinking water fountain on a corner in an historic neighborhood. Riverside Park has some unique artwork. I've been looking for a piece that I helped load for it's trip to Tulsa from Santa Fe, but no luck so far.

I liked the New Mexico one the best because it will probably scare tourists away - That's a GOOD thing.
