Heck I would go fishing too after releasing out the fastest selling and most profitable OS in the history of computing. I mean you try selling 7 of anything per second and then come back.

MSFT is a lame duck company.

They probably regret not being broken up by the Feds 10 years ago. It would have separated the innovative division vs the old school.

Now they are being overtaken by Google, Blackberry, Apple and everybody else.

"Now they are being overtaken by Google, Blackberry, Apple and everybody else." in the mobile area. You should have added that since Google, Blackberry and Apple don't even come close to competing with MS in the OS arena or in business PC sales or the fact that none have any console gaming systems. But I agree that MS has been overtaken by these companies in the mobile arena.

These companies aren't in the OS arena...yet, at least. And we can add Sony and Nintendo to the everybody else category when it comes to console gaming systems.

MSFT doesn't sell business PCs, Dell does... but I understand you're referring to mainframe operating systems.

My ultimate point is that the company's best days are behind it.

Hate to point out that under Ballmer MS has released the fastest selling and most profitable OS in computing history, developed a unifying robotics language, created the Xbox 360 which is one of the most popular console systems in the world, created Xbox Live which is now worth over $1 billion and is set to release out Windows 7 Mobile. In reality the Vista and KIN failures actually caused MS to take a step back and look at what is important and redefine what their goals are.

ok - hold on one second. So it is your belief that when a company purchases computers and it has the latest windows OS on it that this represents the intent of the company to use Windows because "they like it".

Do you really believe that? These companies that "renew their licenses" arent buying anything they are merely maintaining their infrastructure. If MS released Windows 3.1 tommorow you could repeat your ridiculous statement: the fastest selling profitable OS in history. Compulsory licensing, monopolist lockin do not mean anyone wants your product. It just means that maybe they want a computer.

This is WHY MS has no play in any space. They are monopolists sliming revenue from corporate licensing. Its not just the perception of that thats toxic, its also the reality that they dont really have to DO anything to make money, therefore they dont. Which is why the new coat of paint they put on windows every 3 years is starting to look like a really bad joke on all of us.

If MSFT does not re-invent it's self quickly its earnings will drop like a proverbial rock when people realize competing software works better for much less.

I guess I have to point out that some companies buy talent and others create it. Take Google for example they got where they are by buying companies; not by creating. On the flip side would be HTC that was built by 2 guys from the ground up and now competes with the likes of RIM and Apple.

The difference between Google & HTC to MSFT is leadership. MSFT does not have leadership with the right vision.

Just another nail in the dinosaur's coffin.

MSFT is a dinosaur. It is quickly losing relevance in web2.0. They're still hanging on due to Office and the fact most people default to buying PCs with their OS. Otherwise the lose in all other new arenas of innovation.
