Continental Airlines

AOL Travel News:

You could always count on Continental Airlines for a good meal. Well, a free meal. But that's about to change.

The airline will join competitors in charging for food beginning Oct. 12.

Continental says its new menu will feature "a variety of high-quality, healthy food choices" available for purchase on many U.S./Canada and certain Latin American routes

This used to be the best airline in domestic US service. How the mighty have fallen.

If we opened up the US to allow foreign airlines to fly domestic routes, every US airline would go out of business, except for Southwest.

I will be flying Continental next week and it saddens me to learn that they are caving in and following suit by taking away the small free amenities they offered in the past. They have excelled in many ways against their competition. I always fly Continental on frequent trips to Central Mexico. Now that they have merged with United, one of my least favorite carriers, I believe they will start adding new fees and gorging their customers.

Your comment on foreign airlines is an interesting one. I also heard that SW is being merged as well and the prices will no longer be the best game in town. Rebellion, anyone?

And I, like so many others, packs trail mix, bottled water, and/or purchases a meal in the concourse. Food quality has deteriorated over the years and not worth eating.

It takes some preparation to travel but I have learned after many years of taking flight, to bring along essentials for my comfort and nutrition. It does not take the place of a hot healthy meal but I can get by with some thoughtful snacks- and a Snicker's bar in a pinch. When I am traveling out of the country, there is nothing more satisfying when I am starting to wear down than that hit of chocolate and peanuts. You need some kind of reward for making it to the other side!

Not in a million years. I'd rather eat spit than pay for anything on an airplane.

No big whoop. Most airlines charge for their food and only accept credit cards. As one poster noted, if one can't go a couple of hours without food, then you have a problem. Besides, nothing stopping a traveler from getting something from one of the food vendors on the concourse before boarding.

One more reason to continue to NOT fly this airline.

For short flights, no problem; if you can't go 4 hours without eating you have a problem. 6.5 hours is a bit much.

No problem; I quit flying with them back when they stopped having
pillows and added the checked bag fee. I don't need more reasons
not to look back, but thanks anyway.

In a side story, Continental also disclosed that they will be charging for barf bags too.!!
Useage is expected to increase, according to an airline official who requested anonymity because he has to "fly with those damned people."
