Speeding Dolphins Collide In The Most Majestic Fail Ever (VIDEO)

First Posted: 09/28/10 03:30 PM ET Updated: 05/25/11 06:50 PM ET

There isn't a much more serene depiction of nature than a pair of dolphins jumping across a body of water. Aside from being beautiful, dolphins are also incredibly smart, which makes this epic fail that much more hilarious. We're just glad this family was able to capture the blooper from their boat, as it would have never been seen otherwise. (Via Gawker.tv)

They did not collide.
They were having a great time in the boat wake.
The one on the bottom intentionally nose bumped the one coming over the top.
They have great control and a sense of humor.

I've never seen images of dolphins intentionally butting each other. I'm guessing, because its dangerous. Butting at high velocity can rupture organs, which is how they kill rivals, other dolphin/whale species who enter their feeding areas, and sharks. Were you just guessing, or do you work with dolphins?

Also, as someone else noted, the boat's engine may be disrupting their ability to echo locate ("see")

That was not a hard butt. It was on the move and with the direction of the other dolphin. They know how to butt, It is one of their favorite things, play teaches them how to use it for defense. They would not be using eco location at this distance. I work with horses and they have this wild play all the time and do not hurt each other unless they mean to. Dolphins are extremely intelligent and are even more controlled than horses because they are not over ridden by the fight flight problem that prey animals have. ... And ... I am guessing :-) !!

OK: I thought it was hilarious. There is nothing wrong with that. They're OK after all.

Perhaps the sounds from their stink boats confused the Dolphins, they need to use their echo location skills to navigate within their environment. The Blooper maybe a human one .

looks to me like the lower one did that on purpose, or rather on porpoise.

Look, dolphins are pretty tough animals, if they can take on a shark, I think they can handle accidentally bumping into one another. Seriously, humans bump into one another and yeah it might hurt a bit for about a minute or less but we don't die from a little bump. Dolphins can take on a shark while we cannot, but we can bump into each other and be okay while dolphins cannot?

I work for BayWatch Dolphin Tours in Galveston Texas and we've never seen anything like that!

Looked to me like a jeolous mate that caught his beau frolicking with another 'fin. Probably all in fun, as is most of this specie's antics.

The dolphins are gonna be okay. It didn't look serious.
