Huffington Post     First Posted: 09/27/10 04:42 PM ET   Updated: 05/25/11 06:50 PM ET

HuffPost Green is pleased to showcase some amazing art which is part of the CoolClimate art contest. The purpose of the contest is to raise awareness about climate change through identifying and celebrating iconic images and to inspire people to be involved in the discussion.

The following 20 images have been selected from 1,000 submissions from all over the world by an impressive roster of art experts and celebrities including the musician Jackson Browne, Chevy Chase and his wife and philanthropist Jayni Chase, artist Mel Chin, artist Dianna Cohen, ecologist Philippe Cousteau, collector and philanthropist Agnes Gund, environmental activist and former Obama advisor Van Jones, artist Carrie Mae Weems, and curator and chair of the MFA program in Art Practice at the School of Visual Arts David Ross.

The winners will be announced on October 7 in Washington, DC at the Center for American Progress, on Huffington Post and on deviantArt, the largest social networking site for artists, with 13.8 million members. Winners will also be featured on the Planet Green Planet 100 web show.

The winning five images will be given out to top environmental leaders and attendees of 350.org's international day of climate action on 10/10/10 in a toolkit that will help them communicate the urgency of climate change.

HuffPost Green readers get to choose the top five Climate Artists of 2010. The first prize winner will be invited to blog about their work on the Huffington Post.

(Note: Voting is now closed and additional votes will no longer be counted.) The winner of the contest is No Pollution Please by Christos Lamprianidis.

Brand New Song:

All God’s creatures have their place
It’s not just about the human race
Everything’s connected
And what gives us the right
To kill and destroy
all that beautiful life

Global warming is upon us now
Took us a while to figure it out
And now that we know
We need to turn it around

And now we talk of being green
Promoting clean energy
While we burn fossil fuel
And build our war machines
And worry about the world economy

Will we ever learn to live in harmony
Will we ever learn to live responsibly
Will there ever be a time when we can live in peace

The above is the middle verse to hear the full song (free):

I am not afraid. This marketing effort only confirmed that Climate Change is nothing more than fear mongering to hand control of private money to Government officials.

It's always worth revisiting the Talking Points Memo "'Execute' Skeptics! Shock Call To Action: 'At what point do we jail or execute global warming deniers' -- 'Shouldn't we start punishing them now?' " article. I believe they can really be considered "Fair & Balanced"....ROFL......

Congratulations to all the CoolClimate contest participants.

Thanks to CoolClimate, all the judges, and Huffington Post for the honor of participating in this contest which we all hope will help in some small way.

For those of you in the neighborhood or planning to visit Cape Cod, my image "Intelligent Life on Earth" is now hanging at the Woods Hole Inn, a green inn located in the heart of the east coast center for marine research. Woods Hole is the home of Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute, the Marine Biology Lab, as well as facilities for NOAA. Also, the National Academy of Sciences has a conference facility in Woods Hole. The NAS issued this statement about global warming back in 2005: "the scientific understanding of climate change is now sufficiently clear to justify nations taking prompt action. It is vital that all nations identify cost-effective steps that they can take now, to contribute to substantial and long-term reduction in net global greenhouse gas emissions."

Here's hoping enough people are now listening...

Someone already mentioned that the "smokestack" in no. 4 is a cooling tower but was rebutted by a post insisting it's a charcoal burning plant.

Still... This is a cooling tower

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cooling_tower

or to be more specific "Natural draft wet cooling hyperbolic towers," they don't spew smoke. i know it's Art but maybe it's the engineer in me.

I've seen no charcoal burning plants that look like that. A reference would be appreciated.

I can't believe how low the overall ratings are. Maybe higher resolution would have helped....

It appears that the averages were manipulated by certain friends of some of the contestants. If you analyze the voting, there's distinct pattern that is associated with these artists; it appears that not only did these friends give their artist a 10 vote, the same voters gave the other top competitors a 1 vote therefore bringing the overall average for each artist's submission down significantly. This could be viewed as unethical. The art should stand on it's own.

How true! The "winner" solicited friends on facebook etc... according to a poster who said he was spammed 3 times by this guy looking for votes. Welcome to the wonderful world of internet justice, it's survival of the most technologically fit.

Should probably explain, my work (Oil Bottle) is a mud stencil. check out my site mudstencils.com
glad to be in this contest great work folks!
02:59 AM on 10/05/2010
I didn't know it was a mud stencil. That's such a great and creative way to do stencil work without using strong chemicals or permanent sprays. Love it, great job.
12:31 PM on 10/05/2010
Yeah, it would have helped to have some explanation. I didn't know if your work was the stencil itself, or just a photo of the stencil composed with the bicycle. Nice job.

Number 4 is funny. That's a nuclear reactor. The "smoke" is water vapor.
12:51 AM on 10/05/2010
It's a charcoal burning power plant in Northern Greece.
