Charlie Melancon, Louisiana Democrats Still Working To Inform Voters Of David Vitter's Prostitution Scandals (VIDEO)

First Posted: 09/29/10 01:04 PM ET Updated: 05/25/11 06:50 PM ET

With time running out to make up a ten-point gap in the polls to incumbent Senator David Vitter (R-Louis.), Representative Charlie Melancon (D-Louis.) has synced his efforts with the larger campaign of the Louisiana Democrats to remind voters of Vitter's illustrious past as a frequenter of prostitutes. And so, they've remixed and recut the Louisiana Dems' "Forgotten Crimes" ad and slapped on an "I'm Charlie Melancon and I approve this message" teaser.

The ad isn't that different from any of the others in the series -- same lurid re-enactments, same commentary from voters with their identities obscured, same reminder that Vitter "did his thing" inside of 20 minutes. The new clip, however, is cut down from a five-and-a-half minute original to a leaner two minutes. So, now, Melancon and the Louisiana Democrats can get it up on the teevee:

A source familiar with the buy said the commercial will initially run largely on cable - possibly during the New Orleans Saints or LSU games this weekend. It is expected to reach every market in Louisiana.

Here's the remixed ad:

Now is a good time for election candidates to be talking about solutions for the LOUISIANA CORRUPTION TITANIC, rather than each other.

What REALLY is wrong with Louisiana is inept and / or corrupt judicial and U.S. Attorney in positions, that were mainly orchestrated by political placement power! The justices’ abuses are EASILY PROVABLE by looking at Louisiana real estate / mortgage illegalities, and facilitating court judges.

Thankfully, FORECLOSURE FRAUD has center stage in the national media. The light will shine brighter in this judicial corruption that has been hiding in plain sight here in Louisiana –and directly linked to Louisiana’ blighted communities \ commercial and residential frauds \ insultingly blatant Bankruptcy lawlessness \ illegal evictions \ unjust homelessness \ disintegrated households \ poverty \ violence \ joblessness \ substance abuse, etc. (Of course, I have approached lawmakers –to no avail– with suggestions, only to incur severe reprisals. And, an option does not exist for me to retreat from doing what I believe is right, nor moving away from loved ones.

Presently –from Judge Thomas Porteous’ impeachment trial, testimonies about the “Louisiana Way” of giving gifts (bribes) and doing ‘favors’ for judges– members of Congress have more than ample information which makes it silly to impeach Porteous and disregard Louisiana in-your-face lawlessness.

Now that foreclosure fraud has been explained so clearly, even a child can understand that some people have indeed been illegally tossed from their homes, it will not be hard to detect the unlawful foreclosures that occurred here –especially the illegal foreclosure that unjustly caused people to be Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita exiled from their homes (but their neighbors erroneously blame them for blight).

In fact, a mere GLANCE at Louisiana fraudulent property transactions surrounding Freddie Mac, Wells Fargo, and certain foreclosure mills here –supplies additional reasons for Capitol Hill to probe Louisiana. **The current congress members who represent Louisiana have done zilch about decades of PRIMA FACIE foreclosure and mortgage fraud!

To reiterate: David Vitter, Charlie Melancon, and other candidates: You have the opportunity to show worthiness of people’s votes by not insulting our intelligence with finger-pointing at each other, but by talking about your plans for addressing the LOUISIANA CORRUPTION TITANIC; it seems headed underwater with all of us on board.

Million dollar question: is the crime cheating on his wife or contracting the services of a prostitute? If the case is about the latter, is it a crime in Louisiana?

Melancon started out 1 percentage point behind Vitter. He has now fallen to almost 20 points behind Vitter. The more people come to know Melancon the less they like him. He is going to lose not because people like Vitter, but they can't see any reason to vote for someone whose policies and beliefs are exactly the same as Vitter. Just because Melancon has not yet been exposed as a visitor of prostitutes doesn't mean that he should be elected.

This video is ineffective. It points out Vitter's hypocrisy, but it does not engage a single issue beyond that, and the people who are going to vote against Vitter because of his hypocrisy have already decided to do that. The problem for Melancon is that his voting record is a clone of Vitter's. Why should anyone who has a progressive vision want to vote for either one of them?

I think even if Vitter came right out and said "I had sex in a diaper with a prosti-tute bunchs of times and I'll do it again and again and again" it would make no difference to his supporters. Republicans have shown a great degree of difference as to how they hold Democrats accountable then how they do their own party.
And before the tr0lls hit..yes I hold both sides accountable when they screw up, I don't make being a hypocrite my lifes goal.

Great ad but two months too late Charlie. Why on earth did you wait so long? It would be nice if anti-Vitter donors supported your ad buy however. But will they at this late date?

Why not do ads that state: "Vitter used taxpayer money to finance his Washington lifestyle of parties, prostitutes and infidelity?" He used his Senate salary to pay for the prostitutes -- unless he expects people to believe that he stole from his wife's purse or the women were paid by high-rolling Lobbyists. Let him answer the charge! Sometimes I wish Karl Rove was a Democrat.

Melancon is a good man. He's been my rep for a few years, now. I think he's a person of good character. Of course, that will all probably change if he gets in the senate. That place has a way of corrupting everybody.
Louisiana is like New Jersey. It has a history of corruption embedded in the system. You just can't get anything done if you don't play along.

The man is so spineless (or homophobic) that he voted against the hate crimes legislation. Two Republicans from Louisiana voted for the hate crimes legislation, so his support would not have cost him politically. He is just like Vitter.

As a Democrat, I have been frustrated by the inability of the party to damage Vitter's standing with voters. But, it occurs to me that the party is going about it the wrong way. I have loved New Orleans and Louisiana all my life. One of the primary reasons I love them is that things in Louisiana are so open and over the top and unabashed. Given that, it is no surprise that we Democrats are getting no traction in the state attacking Vitter for seeing hookers. They just don't care down there. Also, it looks a bit hypocritical on our part -- since we are always lecturing people about staying out of our personal affairs. I think the party -- in the last month before the election -- should shut up about the hookers. People there know it and have already made up their minds one way or another about it, and he is still ahead. So, let's spend the rest of the campaign focused on Vitter's record in the Senate. He has been a loyal soldier for Bush and the oil industry and the lobbyists who are damaging our country. He has voted time and time again against the interests of his own state. Let's stop talking about hookers and start talking about issues. He looks worse on that score than in any "hot sheet" ad.

Melancon has got to go after Vitter for spending taxpayers' funds on prostitute -- from his Senate salary.

The problem with Melancon focusing on Vitter's record in the Senate is that Melancon's record in the House is identical. Not a dime's worth of difference between them.

Charlie needs to run an ad saying "We know that David Vitter is a serial 'professional woman' employer. We just don't know how many he's employed. If you've changed his diaper, please acknowledge. Help us change it for him one last time"
