Wonderland Compound In Hollywood Hills: The 'Lookout Mountain Motion Picture Squadron'

PHOTOS: Top Secret Compound On The Market: $6.3 Million

Via Curbed LA: This Hollywood Hills compound once housed a "secret laboratory" of filmmakers and post-production editors who worked on classified government footage of nuclear bomb experiments. The NY Times has the details about this secret compound and the corps of filmmakers that captured the nuclear detonation experiments after World War II:

Electrified wire ringed their headquarters in the Hollywood Hills. The inconspicuous building, on Wonderland Avenue in Laurel Canyon, had a sound stage, screening rooms, processing labs, animation gear, film vaults and a staff of more than 250 producers, directors and cameramen -- all with top-secret clearances.

While the secret film corps ended their work in 1963 (when the test detonations moved underground) clips of some of the testing film are available for the public to see.

Nowadays, this eight bedroom, twelve bathroom compound is more suited to an avid art collector or frequent entertainer. There are several gallery spaces, a screening room, sound stage, and a pool with waterfall nestled against the Laurel Canyon hills.
