If given a choice between the cartoons we have now that promote and glorify mindless violence and objectification of victims, or cigarette smoking, I have to say I prefer the latter.

I'm gonna take that trade too, although I'd just as soon do without the latter too.

Age 55,I remember watching some of this stuff from the get go. What is fun now is comparing the value system and morals to today. That winston commercial brought back some memories from yesteryear which would get censored so quick that you wouldn't believe it.Remamber when "Doctors" preferred Luckys? GEESH! How can we live with ourselves after watching how ignorant and gullible we were? I know the ciggarette industry took a big hit a ways back, but guess what they deserved it. All the reports that they did and then covered up when the evidence said right out loud that lucky was a coffin nail? But like true criminals who get away with murder because they have no sense of right and wrong while the innocent god fearing man goes to jail for jaywalking, that is the way of the world. Luckily the chain of evolution seems to be in working order and all we have to be ashamed of is our APATHY! Bon Apetite?

I'm sure I thought the theme was pretty good once upon a time. Then I realized that, like so many great pieces of Americana, it was based on the chord changes of George Gershwin's "I've Got Rhythm".

Can't wait for Bravo TV's "Real Housewives of B.C." featuring Wilma, Betty, Mrs. Slate and Pebbles (now Mrs. Bam Bam). In the first episode, Pebbles hire a cave painting artist and ends up doing a little body painting of her own; Mrs. Slate leaves her quarry counterpart for a young Neanderthal; Wilma and Betty show up at a restaurant wearing the same leopard skin.

My god can the Martin Agency (they handle Geico's marketing) do ANYTHING but bad gimmicks? As 30 Rock mentioned the other night (THAT is great writing!), they've got what... the cavemen, the idiotic Gecko (Gecko/Geico... genius!), the Rod Serling take-off guy... 3 or 4 different spokespeople now? STOP. PLEASE. DO something creative...

Have you heard the one with the squealing pig, going all the way home.??Almost remote throwing time, but muting for sure. The pigs squeal for 30 freaking seconds! FANNED!

My head exploded watching how childrens' cartoon characters were once used to promote cigarette smoking. (OK OK I know the Flintstones were for adults, too.)

Times have certainly changed. Makes the Camel cigarettes mascot look like Barney the dinosaur.

Beyond that, I recall the Beverly Hillbillies doing the same, with Granny (Irene Ryan's character) mangling the "Winstons taste good like a cigarette should" slogan into "Winstons taste good like a cigarette had oughta." How was there room in my brain to learn anything else? ;]

I loved that show and all the other "stupid but funny" series that production company was pumping out in those days, Petticoat Junction, Green Acres, etc.

I remember being a little girl and sitting in the floor in front of the TV, eating my bowl of spagetti-os for lunch-Pebbles and Bam Bam singing Let the Sun Shine In--I was upset because the Flintstones got interupted -to tell us that John Kennedy had been shot. I'll never forget it.
