Doug Gottlieb Jim Mora

ESPN analyst Doug Gottlieb filled in for Colin Cowherd today on his radio show "The Herd".

During the program, Gottlieb interviewed former Atlanta Falcons head coach Jim Mora and asked him about the recent success Michael Vick is having in the NFL.

Mora didn't sound happy after answering questions about Vick and then became noticeably upset after Gottlieb asked how Eagles fans should react to Donovan McNabb's return to Philadelphia.

"Is this your first interview? Jesus Christ," Mora said. "What kind of questions are these?"

At the end of the interview, Mora sarcastically told Gottlieb "You were a real joy, thanks."

Afterwards, Gottlieb remarked, "That has never happened before." Scroll down to watch the video.

Most of you are nuts! Gottleib is a great talent and very clever! Mora was the jerk..just like his dad was!! He's miles ahead of the swill heard on Mike and Mike in the Morning on ESPN..and he's much brighter than the drones on that sports banter show with Woody Paige, A.J. Adande and those other stiffs!

I listened to this live, and it was brutal. Not only did Gottlieb asked poorly constructed and poorly considered questions, he obviously didn't actually listen to Mora. He heard the wors, but couldn't seem to process them, their context, or the message implicit in Mora's tone. Gottlieb was clueless. Even int he follow-up with another ESPN analyst, you could hear in his (the analyst's) voice that he knew Gottlieb just didn't get it.

After that interview, I have no idea why they would be interviewing Mora in the first place. Is he an assistant somewhere or what? I don't blame Mora for his reaction, that was a lame interview by someone who gave the impression that he's clueless.

I don't know if I've ever heard Gottlieb talk for five minutes without mentioning that he used to play ball at Oklahoma State.

I posted about that earlier. I'm glad I'm not the only one who notices this. He's like the Uncle Rico of sports show hosts. Funny, Charles Barkley never has to remind you that he played for the 76ers. Dan Marino doesn't constantly have to tell you "hey, I played quarterback for the Dolphins!"

Hey, the coach should know that these questions are par for the course. He handled some of them fine and some he got a little personal. He asked the interviewer if this was his first interview. Honestly on some of the reactions, we could ask the same of him.

Mora was right to be annoyed. Those were some really stupid questions.

ESPN is obsolete. Whatever.

What does one expect? ESPN is nothing but a but-kissing-fest for jocks and a massive cliche-on-cliche factory!

Espn has become a joke. How should the fans feel? Maybe they should discuss it with their therapists.

I am not defending him but Gotlieb asked supid questions as well. "Should the fans boo McNabb?". Just as classy.

Gottleib is annoying, second only to Vic the Brick.

I feel like this interview is symptomatic of what ESPN has become. Gottlieb asking questions regarding improperly coaching Vick to how Philly fans should feel when he starts for them this week. Whether Mora did or not is not my concern and I could care less about how they'll feel about Vick's "return".

I guess we forgot Vick's been in Philly for over a year now. These questions are designed to evoke some emotion from Mora with the first question and from the listener with the second question. Why not stick to sports? I used to watch SportsCenter everyday before school (this was in the mid-to-late 90's) back when ESPN used to care about sports. Now it's storyline this, storyline that. All I watch on that channel now is soccer.

Gottleib is a former "gym rat" basketball player with a smartass "east coast" attitude. He is the style ESPN Radio has evolved into. He hosts an afternoon show that is pre-empted by most larger markets with their own local talent. It's sad that he muddles through his talentless air presentation on a nationwide network. He'd be lucky to work on a sports talk station in Ogden Utah!

To be or not to be, is that seriously a question?

I happen to have met Gottleib, he's also kind of a dick

What exactly is an "east coast" attitude? Do no radio/TV guys from LA ever have attitude?

If you want more of inane sports talking heads there are plenty to go around.
