Tea Party Movement

The Washingotn Post:

In hindsight, Laurie Horvath says, it probably wasn't the best time to break the news to her liberal friend, who was trimming Horvath's hair between sips of sangria. "You know," Horvath told her casually, "I think I'm going to organize a tea party."

All the teabirthers I know are amazingly uninformed, considering how strongly they feel about the issues they know so little about. Time after time, debate after debate, they can never reference anything that supports their paranoid ideas about how victimized they are... much less anything that backs up their word-of-mouth history of the country, never mind the world.

Shun me, bruise me, make me bleed, Jesus Christ is all I need. Hang in there hon, if they'll shun you for supporting the truth, they're in for some real shockers come November and beyond. People are sick to death of Cronyism and Nepotism in our nation's capitol. We need LOGIC and COMPASSION, not good ol'boy politics. My advice, shun her back, it works for me.

I don't know why it is that most conservatives, automatically ASSUME people they dont know share the same views as they do. I am a very moderate liberal, and i never make that assumption about people i don't know. I don't understand how you can know a person for 30 years and not know.

When you join the American Taliban....you lose your friend.
02:55 AM on 10/17/2010
The Tea Party is not the American Taliban, rofl, the democrats are the ones holding banquets for saudi arabia on a nightly basis at the White House. The Tea Party members are only standing up for their rights, AND YOUR'S. The current system of politics is too outdated and too slow for modern times. ALL of it needs an upgrade. Out with dems, out with republicans, let's get some smart people in for a change, instead of ass kissers.

If you never knew he/she was a bagger, that person clearly never bothered to be up-front about his/her rampant selfishness. That kind of dishonesty means they were never worthy of a real friendship.

Tea Party on side of Big Oil
"The Yes on 23 campaign (in CA) is financed primarily by Valero Energy and Tesoro, two Texas-based oil refiners. The campaign also received a $1 million donation from Flint Hill Resources, a Kansas petrochemical company that is a subsidiary of Koch Industries. Brothers Charles and David Koch fund a complex web of tea party organizations."

We have some Tea Partiers on our block. Now nobody on the street talks to them for the bigoted arrogance because of how they tried to make a simple block party and turn into a preach fest on how they are right and everybody is wrong.

My Republican neighbors are embarrassed by them and believe they will destroy the party.

The shame of it is that they'll always see themselves as martyrs. They will never really "get" why they're despised.

Aren't these the same people who say liberals must be communists, and educate people must be naive?

The Tea Party wants to cut taxes, reduce government and balance the budget.
How and What?

They want a balanced budget -- but millionaires need a tax break.....

They hate government programs --- but like their social security checks....

They hate government programs --- but like medicare paying their doctor bills......

They hate government programs ---- but want their kids to be in good schools....

They hate government programs --- but complain about those potholes.....

They hate government programs --- but sure want police or fire to respond when they have an emergency

They hate government programs -- but want safe drinking water.....

They hate government programs ---- but they want safe food supplies......

They hate government programs --- but they want reliable electric energy......

Democrats are fighting for the middle class...

They need to speak up and not let themselves get drowned out by the 24 hour
right wing infomercial that calls itself a news station

And well she should lose her friends, her family, her right to vote, and we don't need to take her dignity, she gave that up to join the tea party.

If the Tea Party supporters don't want to be shunned and ridiculed perhaps they should speak to their prominent public heads.  When the preferred candidates for your movement are mindless twits and Libertarian idealists, it reflects upon you.

The essence of the article is that Progessive Democrats are shallow, uninformed reactionaries.

Why would you shun someone for placing a flag in their front yard or wearing a "We the People" shirt?

I can see why the Progressive/Democrats are afraid. Good on ya.
10:25 PM on 10/03/2010
Actually the hyperbole of the headline did not match the content of the article. I saw nothing that indicated the flag flyer was shunned. The only negative comment from a neighbour was from someone who already didn't get on with the woman. Same with the book club woman; the only comment from a liberal in the same book club was fairly anodyne. The only negative was from the woman first quoted in the article (Horvath) who seems to have lost a 30 year friendship for announcing her tea party beliefs; and that, frankly, is a matter beween friends.

Freedom
Capitalism
Limited Government

This is not about politics. It's about what supporting the Tea Party platform reveals about YOU. Sorry, we're at a crucial time in history. Time to lead, follow or get out of the way -- of progress.
Tea Party most emphatically DOES NOT represent progress.
