UN Report Cites 'Heartbreaking' Violence In The Congo, Calls For Solutions

The United Nations released a report Friday documenting human rights crimes committed in the Democratic Republic of Congo from 1993 through 2003, CNN reported.

"The period covered by this report is probably one of the most tragic chapters in the recent history of the DRC," the report says. "Indeed, this decade was marked by a string of major political crises, wars and multiple ethnic and regional conflicts that brought about the deaths of hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of people."

The report is intended to help find ways to battle the prevalence of rape, assault and genocide, particularly against women and children.
