I always thought that The Drowned World by J.,G. Ballard had  an attractive Weltschmerzy  vibe.

A Canticle for Leibowitz and pretty much all of J.G. Ballard's writings. But triplettam 'Dhalgren' is the best choice.

My point being it would make you enjoy the Apocalypse more. Comparatively. :)
