Kai Milla, Stevie Wonder's Wife & One-Time Michelle Obama Designer, Closes Shop (PHOTO)

In more Michelle Obama designer news, Kai Milla, who clothed the First Lady in February 2009 has reportedly gone out of business, according to Page Six. Milla, the wife of Stevie Wonder, rose to fame after the First Lady wore a green silk frock made by her when Wonder received the Gershwin Prize last year.

But a source told Page Six that Milla's time has come -- or possibly came months ago, explaining, "The company has left many creditors coming after her to be paid for time, service, and materials. Modeling agencies, production crews, design assistants, pattern makers, office and store landlords have all been trying to contact her office in Los Angeles and New York for months for payment."

Milla's last production was for the summer season, her office phone have been disconnected and her Facebook page untouched since September. Her line was five years old.

While there may be a Michelle Obama Effect, not all First Lady designers have felt it. Aside from Kai, another Michelle Obama designer, Maria Pinto, shuttered her business in February.

The first Lady needs to look more formal. Too often, she even looks sloppy.
The open back door sweater was one of those looks.
She is the first American woman that the world sees and her appearance needs to reflect a more positive, formal and serious look. Those who dress her, may be too weak to let her know when she does not dress accordingly. Stand up, you wooses, tell her to dress more formally. At times, she does look great but she needs to maintain a FORMAL appearance.
I have no business seeing what she looks like in her kitchen or when she just wakes up. Cover bad hair days under a hat, and wear gigantic sunglasses to cover no make up and I don't give dammed and screw all of you days.

I want glamour for my tax dollars.

I'm with you. Those days during the summer where she just pulled her hair back in a small bun in the back of her head was a most terrible look for a first lady. I'm sorry if you are going to be the first lady you just can't have those I don't feel like doing my hair today days.

She was traveling thru Europe and even meet with the, I believe the queen and princess of Spain, with her hair just pulled back like that not styled. Unacceptable. What was she thinking. Some days she is out walking around in sloppy looking hang around the neighborhood clothes.......I don't think so. And those skirts and blouses and cardigans have to go.

It comes with the job and I'm sure it's a burden but she should never be out and about and photographed looking like she is just hanging around the house. When she does dress up, as in the picture, above she looks stunning and should always look dressed for the part.

Michelle Obama looks brilliant all of the time. I love it when any woman chooses hygiene and efficiency to look her best.

Professional make-up and hair gets old quick. Freshness that she can achieve on her own is very un-Antoinette.

I do too. It looks nice with a little wave and bounce to it.

I was one of those vendors who didn't receive payment for MONTHS and then got a check and it bounced.
Eventually, they paid me but it was literally months of drama.

Goodbye, Kai!

once again, misleading..sure it is all mrs obama fault! the economy, the wars, the rain, the sun, the wind, and the 'closing' of Kai.
They cannot wait for hte FALL OF THE OBAMAS!
If you think the media cares for this family-think again! They are just reining in on their popularity cause they know news about the obamas sell, especially mrs obama. But they are just waiting for the day to completely do a 'makeover' and drag the good lady and her family down in hte gutter!
cannot trust the MSM.

I don't think many of the fashion afficionados knew Kai Milla and her designs let alone the general public - that was her problem.

Too bad. That was the First Lady's most stunning look to date.

And that's not the first lady's fault! These businesses were probably in trouble anyway, but let the hate begin!!
