Colbert Looks At Tea Party Coloring Books For Kids (VIDEO)

The Huffington Post
First Posted: 10/05/10 09:23 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 06:55 PM ET

Last night on "The Colbert Report," Colbert kicked off his "Tip Of The Hat/Wag Of The Finger" segment with a tip of his hat to the publishing company responsible for a new Tea Party coloring book. The activity book uses pictures and games to teach children about Tea Party values.

In Colbert's opinion, the coloring book is much more comprehensive than "that other conservative kids' activity book: the Republican 'Pledge to America."' It features patriotic images captioned with lengthy diatribes about limiting the Federal Government's power, because "nothing brings joy to a child than a five-clause sentence," as Colbert said.

In fact, Colbert enjoyed the book so much that he offered suggestions for other Tea Party books, such as Christine O'Donnell's "Rainy Day Book Of Masturbation Alternatives" or "Down On The Farm With Carl Paladino," which features a story about a woman and a horse that will probably confuse and scar children more than help them learn.

IRONIC the majority of Tea Baggers are retirees and blue collar workers and they are supporting Rand Paul who wants to eliminate Medicare and Medicaid for American seniors. Joe Miller who wants to lower the wages of American workers and eliminate unemployment benefits for all Americans despite the fact that his wife already collected unemployment from Taxpayers. For the first time in US history Sharron Angle and Christine O’Donnell are campaigning about changing our abortion laws to force woman into incest or procreate with rapists. Sharron Angle also believes that government should not require insurance companies to cover autism or maternity care despite the fact she is using government health care and the list of anti-American proposals from Tea Baggers Candidates goes on and on. True Republicans and Democrats need to stop the Tea Party on November.

Even for home-schooling teabaggers, one colouring book isn’t enough for a library – let’s extend a helping hand:

Sarah, Vain and Small
No Light in the Attic
The Lying, the Witch, and the Wardrobe
The Teabag Princess

Anyone else?

Daniel Davis of La Junta, CO finds this colouring book to be the perfect "anecdote" for progressive teachers and their indoctrination of socialism on our children.

Those damn progressive teachers who swan around knowing the difference between an antidote and an anecdote. Socialists, every man jack of them.

What makes people think the coloring book was made for children and not the average tea bagger? From the looks of the crowds I've seen, I would guess most of the children of the active tea baggers would be somewhere in their 40's.

This is an example of political indoctrination not Obama telling kids to work hard, get grades, stay in school, follow your dreams, and live up to your full potential

But you're forgetting that he's black. I think that's the real problem the right had.

If you are white you can preach hatred and intolerance, which makes you am evangelical.

If you're not white and you encourage the lesser among us to succeed you're a radical.

In the spirit of being fair and balanced they've got a "President Obama" coloring book ("YES WE DID") for only $2.99 (originally $3.99). Gotta love this country.

The reviews are indeed hiliarous. Considering one poster had this to say: "It teaches you about the truth, without the spin and propaganda."

Really? A coloring book can do all of that, and be historically accurate to boot?!
03:49 AM on 10/07/2010
They'd probably say the same thing about a Tea Party restaurant's kids' place mat.
