Call us biased, but we're city people. We love the many food options, the ability to walk around, the architecture, the diversity, the culture, the shopping, among so much else that make cities great.
The other factor to take into account, though, is the beauty of the place. Is it modern? Gothic? Classic? A mixture?
These places below have all of that and more. And this is just the tip of the iceberg.

Mum said on 6 Wednesday 2010 am31 3:37 am: I think one of the problem is with the descriptive that is being used. Portland is a pretty small city, and small cities by virtue of their size have a better chance to be pretty than large cities. Chicago is a stunning city, and its lakefront displays one of the most beautiful cityscapes I've ever seen - the architecture, the museum campuses, Grant and Lincoln Parks, Lake Shore Drive, etc. And the same can be said about New York (and we're talking Manhattan here). There are several viewpoints from which Manhattan can be rather stunning, and there are certainly parts of Manhattan that are beautiful: Central Park, Fort Tryon Park and the Cloisters viewed from the Palisades across the Hudson, Inwood Park, a walk up Fifth Avenue, etc. Stunning? Yes. Exciting? Yes. Beautiful? In parts, yes. But pretty? No. |
