The Center for Civil Engineering Earthquake Research at the University of Nevada, Reno was awarded a $12 million grant Sept. 29 to expand its earthquake simulation laboratory to become one of the largest such laboratories in the world in terms of floor space.
The grant was one of five awarded by the National Institute of Standards and Technology, a division of the United States Department of Commerce. UNR's grant was the second-largest grant received, and was chosen among more than 100 projects, according to the department's website.
