The asteroid that is thought to have ended the age of dinosaurs was maybe 6 miles in diameter. Nasa says that a much smaller asteroid will be passing 1/10 of the distance from the Earth to the Moon on the 12th of October. It is only 7 meters in diameter, but still big enough to cause damage if it had been on a collision course with a populated area. It will be passing about 30,000 miles from the Earth. For comparison, geosynchronous satellites orbit about 22,000 miles from the Earth's surface.

i like the way you use the word 'thought' in regards to the likely 'dinosaur killer' asteroid - it shows you are open to the possibility to other option.

here is a link to an interesting impact - around 1443 off new zealand - if it hit land, would have been BAD

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mahuika_crater

water impacts wipe out nearly all the negative effects (except for local coastlines) , and hide the true odds of a cat strophic impact

God creates stories like this one to test the christians' faith.

Conversely, Christians creating stories like that one test the patience of sane people.

I had one of those kind of cats. Seriously tore up the furniture. Didn't shed much though.

They could tell it was cat-like from the fossilized hairball next to it.

So was this a first cousin or a brother of the Dinosaur?

A little pertinent FYI, folks.

This story has nothing to do with Christians, particularly the smaller sub-set of Christians who do not believe in evolution. Making fun of Christians for daring to choose a different belief system to follow is no demonstration of superior intellect or greater enlightenment.

It's just stereotyping and bigotry.

But, rebaggers don't believe in evolution! This must be a lie like global warming.

If evolution were true how do you explain a liberal? Last time they evolved was in 1776. Since then - nothing.

***If evolution were true how do you explain a liberal? Last time they evolved was in 1776. Since then - nothing***

That must have sounded smart in your mind.

Christians, say Hola to your (great)^10 grandpa. You can call him grandpa morph. That's short for dinosauromorph.

Guess what? He's your grandpa, too. Sorry you have to share the same DNA with people you obviously despise.

Despise? No
Mock? Yes.
Yup! He's my grandpa morph, just as much as of my less than intelligent fellow human beings: the religious.

Unlike birds, the ancestors of mammals were not dinosaurs. The ancestors of mammals were cyanodonts.

Nice trick, considering Jesus hadn't been born yet.

Oh, you're making fun of Christians? Sorry, carry on. I'm sure we can't get enough of your kneejerk anti-theist krapp.

According to Sherri Shepherd from "The View", Jesus pre-dates everything.

Presumably even dinosaurs.

My Latin micro-bio didn't meet guidelines. ?!?
04:12 PM on 10/08/2010
"The Earth had been devastated by massive climactic changes at the end of the Permian, and pulses of flash warming continued through the Early Triassic, some five million years, continually destabilizing the environment and delaying full recovery of ecosystems," Benton said.

This devastation, according to the article, is known as "The Great Dying."

sounds eerily familiar....

I am sure Ann Coulter is relieved to know that she is no longer the oldest dinosaur on the planet.
