Christine O'Donnell: SNL Spoof Of 'I'm Not A Witch' Ad 'Really Funny'

AP/The Huffington Post   First Posted: 10/11/10 05:30 PM ET Updated: 05/25/11 07:00 PM ET

Saturday Night Live has taken another jab at Christine O'Donnell - and the Delaware Senate candidate says the riff on her recent television campaign ad "was really funny."

In the ad that debuted this week, O'Donnell tells the camera, "I'm not a witch." The line from O'Donnell's ad makes light of comments she made on a talk show in 1999.

The spoof begins with SNL actress Kristen Wiig using lines similar to the ad. It then diverges into the absurd, with Wiig asking, "Isn't that what the people of Delaware deserve? A candidate who promises first and foremost that she's not a witch? That's the kind of candidate Delaware hasn't had since 1692."

O'Donnell responded with a Twitter posting this morning, saying the skit was funny and adding: "I have to admit, her hair looked better than mine."

Financial issues

In 2008 O'Donnell defaulted on the mortgage for her Wilmington house and the mortgage company obtained a judgment against her for $90,000. The house was due to be sold at a sheriff's auction in August 2008 when she sold it the month prior to her campaign's lawyer and then boyfriend. The Internal Revenue Service filed a lien in 2010 that said that O'Donnell owed $11,000 in back taxes and penalties from 2005, according to public records. O’Donnell said that it was a mistake and a computer error, and noted that the IRS agent handling the matter claimed he was perplexed by the agency's actions. In campaign finance reports, she listed herself as self-employed and said she was doing odd jobs to make ends meet!

Because of financial difficulties, she moved to a Delaware townhouse, where she paid half the rent with campaign funds because she also used separate quarters in the residence as her campaign headquarters for her 2010 Senate run.Between 2007 and 2009 the Federal Election Commission cited her eight times for failing to supply contributions reports on time. Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington alleged that O'Donnell made false statements on Federal Elections Commission filings and illegally used more than $20,000 of her campaign funds as "her very own personal piggy bank" by claiming expenses during a time when she had no official campaign. The group filed a complaint on September 20, 2010 with the Federal Elections Commission, and asked the U.S. Attorney in Delaware to investigate. O'Donnell responded to the accusations, telling reporters, there is "no truth to it. I personally have not misused the campaign funds. "However, she refused to answer specific questions about her finances asked by CNN

For my next job interview. I will start with I'm not a werewolf and I did not go to Harvard. In fact, I did not finished high school and I never bothered to pay child support. In fact, I cheated on my spouse many times and drove under the influence many times as well.

Why I'm not a witch at all, I'm a brainless and jobless little girl.

Witches are smart and educated and don't make a profession of running for office 7 times and don't have lien of $11,000 in back taxes to the IRS and penalties from 2005.

And finally – after the mice with human brains, the anti-masturbation comments, the debate on evolution – something on which we can agree.

We did a sketch on the ad Sunday night in our show Top Story! Weekly at iO West in Hollywood that was pretty darn funny:

As much as I admire Kristen Wiig's immense talent, I think Erin Gibson does a better mock of O'Donnell.

I am mesmerized by her "crazy eyes."

Dear Christine, I was a hot 26 year old gay woman until about 2 years ago when I accidentally stepped on the tail of a stray cat. It turned out to be a WITCH! She then turned me into an overweight middle aged balding white male! Oh the irony! Could you help a girl out? I cry all the time now!!!

Hey, rg. After holding back for the longest time, I just cut and pasted your original post and sent it to the nice mod who's been answering people's questions (Stephanie), asking how and why it was considered "abusive" enough to be deleted. If people can't engage in playful banter, especially on a topic which could be in the comedy section, then I don't know what the point of the threads are anymore.

Kristen Wigg is by far one of the versatile actors around, a constant hit and her delivery and ability to pick up subties in a character so easily...sheer brilliance, I figure her days are numbers for she's most like the female version Will Ferrell, a few years ago.

The new dude that does the Denzel etc is hopefully there to stay and develop for I find his talent almost unreal and hope they bring him into the mix more often. Was glad to see Wigg more this week than last.

I think SNL is back on top of it's game, it was a bit dry prior to 08 for a bit..but good or bad I'm there each Saturday.

this was killer...had to rewind so funny yet on point...total girlcrush on Ms. Wigg!!

Six articles frothing at the mouth over Conservative women, yet not a mention of New York disenfranchising the military vote. HP at it's finest.

That sound you hear is laughter, not frothing. And are you using a New York-sized generalization to sweepingly blame any disenfranchising on liberals? You know you want to. And I googled your disenfranchising thingie, and wouldn't you know, it's the red meat item of the day over at Fake News and every other right wing blog and hot-air manufacturing rightie site. There's your answer- alternate realities don't mix.

And one more thing, because I'm tired of the wingnut lies, distortions and fake outrage- really quite had my fill- here's a counter to your next wingnut dissembling about Dems trying to steal the elections- which is so convenient to be coming up, right when the Chamber of Commerce is desperate to take the Saudi, India, China foreign money to buy elections heat off of themselves:

PRESIDENT OBAMA SIGNS SCHUMER BILL TO EASE VOTING PROCESS FOR MILITARY, OVERSEAS VOTERS October 29, 2009

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer (D-NY), Chairman of the Senate Rules Committee, announced today that President Obama has signed into law his legislation to make it easier for U.S. troops to cast ballots from overseas. Co-sponsored by Senators Saxby Chambliss (R-GA), Ben Nelson (D-NE), Senate Rules Committee Ranking Member Robert Bennett (R-UT) and 55 other senators—was attached to the Department of Defense authorization bill, which cleared the Senate on a 68-29 vote last week.

http://schumer.senate.gov/new_website/record.cfm?id=319487

“It is the least we can do for our troops to make sure their votes get counted when they are serving overseas,” said Schumer. “This bill will remove the barriers that too often conspire to disenfranchise our military men and women. Thanks to this quick passage by the Senate, it will take effect in time for next year’s federal elections.”
02:07 PM on 10/12/2010
Only problem is they didn't bother sending the ballots overseas for them to vote. So now they don't get to vote at all. And this is the state that Schumer represents. Not good, not good at all.

C'mon NBC, quit denying your content to (some) places outside North America! I can watch MSNBC's online content here in Taiwan with no problem. But not NBC's. I used to watch SNL on the Slingbox at my folks' place, but nowadays I'm usually working at air time.

What purpose does it serve to restrict this sort of content? Don't you guys realize that we live in a "global" world these days? You have fans outside of your "region" who are getting tired of your peevishness.

--jrd

PS: Note to HuffPo Ed's, perhaps you guys should put a flag on content that is not available due to copyright restrictions. Perhaps "naming and shaming" will help persuade NBC to stop this annoying habit.

Well, sorta... Yes, there are various sites like this, but why should I have to go hunting for the correct episode and download the whole thing if I just want to watch this clip here? The funny thing is, many of these SNL clips get replayed on other networks' pundit shows, and THOSE shows CAN be viewed here in Asia. Given the de-facto availability of this content in the so-called "restricted" regions anyway, it just makes NBC's policy seem that much more petty and stupid.
