Some spend hundreds on fancy footwear to prepare for the Chicago Marathon, but Julian Romero wanted to keep things simple--and run barefoot.

NBC Chicago caught up with Romero after Sunday's marathon, and he explained that running barefoot improves one's form and is more comfortable on steamy race days.

"It's really the most comfortable way to run, you know? Especially in heat like this, you don't have to have those socks and shoes on your feet, just have that cool air going over your feet the entire race," he told NBC Chicago.
