Copa Peru, an annual Peruvian soccer tournament, was the site of a major fan revolt last weekend. After referee Carlos Montero Mendoza made a questionable call in a third-round match between the teams Atletico Grau and Sporting Pizarro, players and fans grew violently angry. First, players went after Mendoza and later, fans charged onto the field and attacked him too. Spectators chased him around the field as he sought out protection from riot police.
