Not all of us are lucky enough to enjoy both a beautiful city abode and a delightful country home. However there are plenty of options for us unfortunate souls, including renting a weekend of relaxation. From rustic farmhouses to deluxe compounds, from small cabins to giant barns, we've got you covered.

Tivoli "Kathleen's Barn"

It doesn't get more charming or authentic than the two-bedroom, 1400 sq. foot "Kathleen's Barn" in Tivoli, New York. The large, open space envelops you in the warmth of aged wood from the exposed beams to the kitchen table. It might be too cold for an outside shower but if bundled up appropriately, the idyllic back porch nestled in the woods is a great place to unwind. If you are musically inclined, there is also a piano in the barn.
Rates: $180-$225/a night for Double Occupancy, Call For Group Rates

How To Get There:
Located in the Hudson Valley, the Barn is only two hours away and situated near great restaurants and wineries. We recommend Luna 61, an organic vegetarian restaurant that only serves locally grown fruits and vegetables.

Pawling"1815 Laurel Farmhouse"

If you crave a luxury rural experience definitely check-out the restored antique farmhouse on 13 private acres located only 75 minutes away from Manhattan. No expense was spared during the most recent upgrade; rough-hewn exposed beams contrast a gourmet chef's kitchen complete with wet bar. The antique wide-plank floors, two fireplaces and original 19th century cooking hearth add additional charm while the high-speed internet and high thread-count Egyptian cotton linens offer the comfort of a high-end hotel. During the summer the property has a private salt water pool however in the fall and winter you can take advantage of the lush scenery with hiking and snow-shoeing only steps away from your door.
Rates: 6 People Maximum - Weekend $750

How To Get There:
Although a car is recommended, you can reach the Laurel Farmhouse via the Metro-North train, Southeast Station, which is three miles away from the property.917-359-3877

Catskills"Cauterskill Creek Farm"

The Catskill Mountains are one of the most beautiful spots in all of New England to check-out fall foliage. This property is actually an old farm located on 145 acres along the Kaaterskill Creek. The main residence is a 200 year old Greek Revival farm house that sleeps up to eight people. Although the amenities might not be the most modern, your visit is more about the hiking and fishing you can do on the property and the relaxing evenings on the large front porch that faces the creek. If you decide to venture out into the surrounding area, we recommend a visit to the Thomas Cole National Historic Site. Learn more about the Hudson School painter, view paintings in the rotating gallery or participate in a guided hike on the Hudson River School Art Trail. Rates: 8 People Maximum - Weekend $650

How To Get There:
Only two and a half hours away from NYC, the farm is located three miles from the quaint village of Catskill and five miles away from the New York State Thruway at exit 21. (845) 795 5706

Lake Champlain "Victorian Schoolhouse"

If you crave the privacy of your own home but the convenience of a bed and breakfast, then you must visit the "Schoolhouse" in the Adirondack Mountains. Located behind the Lake Champlain Inn, the home has two large bedrooms, two bathrooms and additional sleeping accommodations if needed. The kitchen truly has everything you might need for a weekend stay but we do suggest you pay a visit to the inn for some of their homemade bread and muffins.
Rates: 6 People Maximum - Weekend $250

How To Get There:
The "Schoolhouse" is a little under five hours from NYC and it let's you cruise right through Albany.

LOL
I look at those four pictures and see hard wood to sit on, snow to shovel, misquitoes to swat, and throw rugs that will constantly need straightening. I'm not going to be relaxed in any of those places!

But, the pict on the main, wasn't that house used in a movie?

'However there are plenty of options for us unfortunate souls, including renting a weekend of relaxation'.

I tend to think that the real unfortunate souls are those with no houses at all.
