Michelle Obama Back In Black & Favorite Belt (PHOTOS, POLL)

Just when we were getting used to seeing the First Lady in bold, eye-popping colors, Michelle Obama hit Chicago on Wednesday night in a little black dress. Oh, the style irony!

While we can't get a great view of her frock (thanks, podium), we can tell the dress had a textured skirt and that she paired it with what is unmistakably her black Azzedine Alaia belt, one of her favorite accessories.

Yes I know that compared to other first ladies she is a breath of fresh air. But she's not reallt that glamorous and goregous, is she. She's a smart, neatly turned out, fresh and clean woman. Icon? No.

I don't like the belt. I think it's very unflattering but our First Lady is definitely true to yourself. If she loves it that's all that matters.

Because that is where her waist is. You can argue about whether or not someone who is shortwaisted should be wearing belts, but, if she chooses to wear them and is comfortable with it, that takes care of any argument by others. This First Lady does not have a model figure; she has the figure, physique, of a typical woman, perhaps a typical black woman, and she celebrates her body, which is a lesson for ALL of us. Some things about each of our bodies cannot be changed, no matter how hard we work at staying lean and "in shape" and women in this country have for too long obsessed so much about their imperfections that they inhibit their ability to live a full and happy life. There is much I admire about this woman and this is close to the top of the list. Insofar as she or any of us, can maintain healthy bodies, she does, and that is the important thing.

From the front she looks good, all side views are awful...either get a garment that holds in the gut or don't wear form fitting clothes. She ruins her look everytime this way...WHO is advising her? The 2 daughters? Glad she ditched that wide, clear plastic belt...had one of those in 1968 and it looked cheap then.

I love her in black, but I have never been a fan of her belts. She is such a pretty woman. Do you all think this is for sure a dress? Could it be a top and skirt? Anyway, I love the top, but not the skirt. The texture adds to the hips. All in all, I see more I like than that I don't like about the whole package here.

Some of my thoughts, not worth much of anything, but here goes:

Picture number 5 looks like a bit of underarm cleavage. Oops. But she is so fit that is seems ok.
Picture number 7 has an alluring hint of cleavage, and surely First Ladies are allowed to be tastefully alluring sometimes.
Picture number 8 is my own favorite outfit with which she is shown wearing the belt. (Not that I admit to liking her in wide belts) It is also a great picture of our First Couple. It would be a great picture even if they were not in the White House.
And picture number 11 is an adorable expression. These photos are a really good collection of expressions on an attractive and appealing face.

That was my least fave, cause I don't like her in full skirts, and they look so worried about something. (We should be surprised they don't always look that worried. It is a rough job, and it is harder to be the first black pres and wife.)
