Neil Patrick Harris Twins David Burtka

Neil Patrick Harris and his longtime partner David Burtka have welcomed twins: a boy and a girl. He tweeted on Friday:

Babies!! On 10/12, Gideon Scott and Harper Grace entered the Burtka-Harris fold. All of us are happy, healthy, tired, and a little pukey.

The babies were reportedly carried by a surrogate. Harris shared the couple's news that they were expecting over Twitter in August:

So, get this: David and I are expecting twins this fall. We're super excited/nervous/thrilled. Hoping the press can respect our privacy...

Congrats!

I couldn't be happier for them both and the baby's names are so beautiful. One thing, in all the photos and videos we have of the two together, we never see them holding hands, putting an arm around the other or even kissing. If I've one request of the two, now that they have ventured into parenthood, is that they express their love for one another in a more prolific way. I'm not asking for outright craziness in public but it would be nice to see them walk hand and hand down a red carpet or display more closeness publicly. It would certainly be helpful to the gay community - especially now that so many younger gay people are being bullied and harassed. NPH is well respected - there are many who have no idea he is even gay much less in a committed same-sex relationship with David Burtka and that the two now have four children together. I admire them so much for being openly gay.

Then they have behaved as adults. Do you need to see how it is or what? Good for them. Congrats on the wee bairn. Gay or straight, there is a matter of decorum and maturity. They seem to have made the decision.

Maybe they aren't PDA people. I think asking someone to turn their relationship into some sort of big political statement is a little insensitive, actually. If they want to, they will, but it's their prerogative.

I think that these two men are a great example to young people today, especially young gays. NPH is out and proud and is also having a wildly successful career. He is well liked, seems to be in a solid relationship, and they are now raising a family.

I'm happy for them, but every child does need it's "Mother". The boy is going to have no role modeling about being hetero if he is so. The girlis never going to have her mommy, which is so important. There is a reason why a mommy and daddy family unit work. It will be interesting to see 20 years from now, how all these gay adoptions turn out. Hopefully, it will be discovered that they didn't make a difference.

Im happy for them too. I agree with what you say about an "ideal" family unit. But otherwise makes litle sense. Given your argument then no kids with a mother and father would be gay, or have psychological problems, etc. I think gay parents can raise kids as well and as lovingly as any heterosexual couple. in life there simply is no guarantee either way even for parents who do the best they know how day in and day out.

...btw, by "ideal" Im not referring necessarily to straight paprents OR gay parents. Most of the parents I know are "traditional" heterosexual couples who are far from ideal parents!

It's not a new concept and it's worked very well for a large number of families. My boys had a great role model in my husband and I guess I've been a good female role model for them but I have many friends raising children on their own and they manage just fine to fill in the models.

If the Burtka-Harris family is anything like mine, there are likely amazing role models of both genders throughout the family :)

I respect everyone who wants to have children.

I think children deserve the best treatment possible.

I hate people who abuse children!

But for me...

..getting pregnant and having children is one of the worse things that I can imagine.

Truth is: I really don't like being around children...the noise, the responsibility, the crying, the playing, everything...

I hated being a child and had an awful childhood.

I was bullied, teased, harassed. I hated other children. I see kids today and cringe. I'm always looking for apartments that are free of children. I'd sooner live in an old folks home.

I wonder if there are others who feel as I do...

You might want to see a professional about why you dislike children so much. It's pretty difficult to avoid them unless you become a recluse. They are a large part of the human race.

Not really. Don't have to be a recluse to avoid children. Just don't live in a suburban or other neighborhood with families. It's easy. I've lived in several states, have single or gay friends without kids.

No one needs a professional if they don't like kids. It takes all kinds to make up the world.

By the way, nothing wrong with not wanting to have children yourself.

its so funny how they both look so much alike...they are equally good looking...

i have a theory that people should be rated from 1 to 10 in looks, and that if you are in a relationship you should not be more than 2 places apart in looks from your spouse. If your a 9, you probably shouldn't date a 6 because I think it might put a strain on the relationship. I honestly think that neil and david are probably 9s, if david was a 4...i think there would be jealously of neil cheating...the only thing that can keep an unattractive spouse with an attractive spouse is money.

I would be shocked if neil and david ever split up...they are a way cute couple...

You are a completely ridiculous and superficial person. Look at Brad Pitt and Jen Aniston. What holds a marriage together is love, respect and loyalty.

They can marry but unfortunately it's not on the Federal level. I hope that happens ASAP. GLBT Americans should be treated equally under the law. No excuses.
