uhm...

In the past two years, they have been inspecting less than 2% of the rigs every year. How has that changed?

Debate the policy. But first, LEARN the science.

In a functioning democracy, the only surprise would have been that oil drilling had EVER been allowed WITHOUT surprise inspections.

There's a lot of negativity here, directed at these actually quite meaningful reforms. The MMS was corrupt, undoubtedly. But that didn't happen under this administration; it was the last. Now, when the Obama adminstration attempts to reform the system, they get nothing but hate. Can we please show a little support for some much-needed watchdog work?

It was well known in the industry for years that it was corrupt, yet this administration did nothing until it got bad publicity from an oil spill.

"I think unannounced inspections should and must play a significant role in an integrated inspections policy," Bromwich told the Reuters Global Climate and Alternative Energy Summit.

Me, too. Frankly, Big Anything cannot be trusted - they get big because their sole focus is profit. To such entities, safety, regulations, people, and the environment are costs, not responsibilities.

You either ride them, or...Deepwater Horizon.

WOW!!!

Are you serious?

15 years I've been working in The Gulf and I've NEVER seen or heard of an "Announced Inspection".

They are always a surprise. Another example of the Gov. trying to pull the wool over the sheep's eyes.
