Jesse Ventura: Sarah Palin Is 'A Quitter,' 'Unqualified'

The Huffington Post   First Posted: 10/16/10 02:37 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 07:05 PM ET

Jesse Ventura Sarah Palin

Former Minnesota Governor Jesse Ventura had harsh words for his fellow former Governor Sarah Palin recently, when he called her an "unqualified" "quitter" who had "screw[ed] the people of Alaska."

Talking to Fancast, the one-time professional wrestler and Independent-turned-conspiracy-theorist said that Sarah Palin was the reason he couldn't get behind the Tea Party movement.

"Anybody that would put Sarah Palin to the top of their list will never get me," Ventura told Fancast about the former vice presidential candidate. "She's a quitter...She quit in the middle of her term. That's the contract you have with the voters."

Ventura was then asked about his opinions about her political career before she decided to resign the governorship last summer:

"I felt she was completely unqualified. I had more qualifications than she did. I had served as a mayor of a town [Brooklyn Park, Minn.] of 60,000 - hers [Wasilla, Alaska] was 10,000. I had served as governor for two years when everybody wanted me to run for president in 2000, and I said I'm not prepared to be the president. I haven't even completed office as a governor yet. Now, she never completed her office as governor. She didn't even get two years in hardly! And she quit to get money. Jesus, how do people not see that! She saw greener pastures, said, Screw the people of Alaska, and went on to collect.

Though such harsh criticism of Palin would be atypical for most conservatives, Ventura has shown that he's not afraid to go against the grain of his former party.

Ventura vehemently railed against waterboarding in 2009, calling it torture and going as far as to say he would exact the practice on former Vice President Dick Cheney.

He also traded barbs with Sean Hannity on the issue, and claimed that he would get him to say "Barack Obama is the greatest president" given a chance to waterboard him.

The former governor also once called George W. Bush the "worst president in my lifetime," though Ventura's firm belief that 9/11 was an inside job could probably have something to do with that.

It's inaccruate to claim he was a Seal.

From September 11, 1969, to September 10, 1975, during the Vietnam War era, Ventura served in the United States Navy. While on active duty, Ventura was part of Underwater Demolition Team 12 (UDT).[42] The UDTs were merged with the US Navy SEALs in 1983, 8 years after Ventura had left the Navy. Compared to SEAL teams, UDTs saw less combat and took fewer casualties.[43]

Bill Salisbury, an attorney in San Diego and a former Navy SEAL officer, accused Ventura of "pretending" to be a SEAL and wrote that Ventura would be blurring an important distinction by claiming to be a SEAL when he was actually a frogman with the UDT.[43][44][45] Following that, Governor Ventura's office confirmed that Ventura was never a member of the SEALs. His spokesman stated that Ventura has never tried to convince people otherwise

He also never saw combat and admits that (eventually did). I dont know where this "he saw combat" stuff comes from.

UDT's were the forerunner's of the SEAL program. They were an elite special forces group created during ww2. They served in Korea, and Vietnam. He can claim to be an elite special forces operative, because that's what the UDT was. Look it up. Stop trolling. They didn't merge with the seals, they were re-designated as SDVT, or SEAL delivery vehicle team. Get your facts straight before you start bad mouthing something. He served active duty in a special forces unit. Can you say the same?

Yeah yeah yeah. My cousin was a Treasury agent before they turned the agency into ATF, so what. Does that diminish what he did for twenty years? I doubt it.

Jesse, Jesse, Jesse. The 'roids long ago affected your brain. Its not a good week when he's not ripping someone

Jesse, you didn't even get a majority to vote for you, dude.

and i remember you quitting in the ring several times ;) You quit wrestling, then came back, then quit again :P

and while you fulfilled your term, you didn't run for a second term for the same reason she quit her first-family and money.

You also almost did resign, if you remember. "Governor Ventura sparked media criticism when, nearing the end of his term, he suggested that he might resign from office early to allow his lieutenant governor, Mae Schunk, an opportunity to serve as governor. " you backed down when you got heavily criticized

You also quit the reform party

You also quit the funeral of sen. wellstone.

You also quit the U.S. due to "censorship" whatever that means. for Mexico. no censorship there

This reminds me when he almost made Sean Hannity curl up into the fetal position. 'The Body" was being interviewed on Hannitys show by Hannity when he referred to Hannity as 'Sean'. Hannity then corrected JV by saying 'its Mr. Hannity' in a feeble and misguided attempt to intimidate Gov. Ventura. At that point JV immediatley stopped what he was saying and looked Hannity dead in the eyes and without a hint of humor asked. "Are you my authority!?". Hannity immediatly got a pevish and submissive look on his face that created an akward moment. Then they immediately went to commercial. It was great.

who also happens to be a US miltary veteran and retired Navy Seal. You know. Someone who actually put it on the line for their country. Not like SP and the rest of those phony, Tea Bagger, chicken-hawk, celebrity politcians who hold rallies for profit.

not exactly. He never saw combat. So he didn't put it on the line for the country in the sense of his life.

why does the article say, "Ventura has shown that he's not afraid to go against the grain of his former party."??? JV has never been a republican. he was a member of the reform party and the independent party. it's just irritating when the people who are writing this stuff don't know basic facts.

For those who say Pres. Obama is unqualified do you have to make the same decisions as he does on a daily basis 24/7? Do you have access to the same information? What are your advisers telling you? Sure it's easy to blame the President but for some reason people don't remember the across the board "No".. People should be shouting from the roof tops for the GOP to help heal the economy....The economy will expand when the business community allows it to expand. It's big business...

This from a guy who used to put on tights, run around a ring and “act out” a wrestling match? Then again, it does seem par for the course for this wannabe to pile on to a woman who is single-handedly scaring the stuffing out of big tough guys like Jesse.

He was also a former Navy Seal, and he's someone who truly cares about the people. I don't agree with everything he says, but he's a lot more thoughtful than the overwhelming majority of American politicians.
