'National Safe Schools Week' Puts The Spotlight On School Violence

According to national data, almost 8 percent of students reported being "threatened or injured with a weapon" on school grounds in 2009.

Findings from the same 2009 Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report show that almost 20 percent of youth reported being bullied at least once within the last year.

To spotlight the nationwide problem of school violence, National Safe Schools Week kicks off October 17.

Investigation Discovery and the PTA have teamed up for a week-long Stand Up For Kids campaign, which brings together educational programming about the topic with online tools to get involved.
