Pemaquid Point. Beautiful enough for the Maine quarter.

I saw alot of light houses in Maine, and all of new england. There were far nicer light houses in Maine than the two shown for maine, but non the less new england has definatly made an impression for thier light houses.

Why is there no lighthouse from Michigan? Michigan has more lighthouses than any other state in the US. Per usual, these 'top' photo articles are overwhelmingly neglectful in their pursuits.

Michigan has some really nice light houses. I agree.

I was happy to see Cape Hatteras Light and Nubble Light made the list. I think Portland Head Light could have been included, but my favorite lighthouse will always be Rose Island Lighthouse, Newport, RI, where I spent my wedding night:

The lighthouse at Point Agulhas, South Africa is really nice - should have made the cut.

To the editors at Huffington Post:

There is no city or town in Spain called Galicia. It is a region. The Tower of Hercules is located near the town of A Coruna.

And most of the photos don't do justice to the lighthouses.

Is it just the light-house, or it it the location? I nominate Cape Enrage, New Brunswick, Canada.

I am happy to see that the light house just a few miles from me is #1. It is a beauty. It is unfortunate that the picture of the light house at Winchester Bay (Oregon) is not more flattering. It is also a lovely spot.

Pt. Vicente is on the Palos Verdes Peninsula, there's a visitor center adjacent. It's next door to Donald Trumps golf course.

What about "Roter Sand", Germany?

Very beautiful and the world's first offshore building

Here's a really cool postcard of the Roter Sand from 1907.

Do you happen to know if the photo you linked to was taken before or after the restoration? I understand from the German Wikipedia article (for some reason it's only available in German - which I can read - and Dutch) that the Roter Sand was replaced by the Alte Weser in the 1960s after it fell into disrepair. But it was restored in the late 1980s and is now a tourist attraction.

Great picture, you can almost feel the wind and the waves.

The photo I linked was probably taken after 1990. According to the Wikipedia article, the biggest part of the restauration was placing a steel cuff over the lighthouse, down to the ground and filling the space with concrete to stabilize the building - so we can't see this from above the waterline. The lighthouse is repainted every 5 years.

Lighthouse not that special it's the surrounding landscape and you can only glimpse it by train or boat-not easily publicly accessible otherwise-http://www.lighthousefriends.com/light.asp?ID=11

You are so right. Gave my wife a painting of the lighthouse years ago. I still find myself stopping on occasion to look at that painting. Beautiful image.
