Bill Clinton Stumps For Michael Bennet (PHOTOS)

PHOTOS: Bennet, Clinton Jab Tea Party, Talk Deficits In Denver

Former President Bill Clinton stopped in Denver Tuesday evening to stump for incumbent Democratic Senator Michael Bennet. Clinton and Bennet spoke to a crowd of roughly 2,100, according to Bennet campaign numbers. The two riffed on issues ranging from the budget deficit to the tea party.

"We ended the century with a surplus," Bennet said, referring to the end of Clinton's presidency in 2000. "We were actually on our way to paying down our debt."

And now, Bennet said, "The very same people who burned the house down want their matches back."

Clinton jabbed the Tea Party, saying that they made "George Bush look like a dangerous liberal."

Bennet is locked in a tight election battle with Republican Ken Buck. Public polling trends indicate that the race is a toss-up.

Clinton endorsed Bennet's opponent, Andrew Romanoff, in the Democratic primary.
