The idea is that you can "read, watch, and listen to an e-book at the the same time," in the parlance of Penguin's marketing materials in support of their "amplified" e-books, which have included classics and backlist bestsellers, such as Ken Follett's "The Pillars of the Earth."

Developing new technology seems to be based upon the thought that "If it can be done, then it should be done". Unhappily this is not always a good thing to apply without qualification. The first question should be "do we need to do this which we can do?". I have enough buttons on my T.V. controller , my cell phone, my dishwasher, my stove, etc., etc., to exhaust me in figuring out what does what. I'll pass on the "amplified ebook" and settle for a simple Kindle. Apologies to Steve Jobs and others devoted to the further advance of more gadgetry for more people.

All I need is a good story. Epublishers can keep their audio and video distractions.

Let's keep things simple but not digital. Books are books, you need to hold it, read it and turn the pages.

As described in the article, enhanced ebooks are television. We know how good television is.
Folks, let's just read and leave it at that.

There are actually a lot of really great television shows on right now, mostly on cable. But I agree, these enhanced ebooks are a waste of time.
