New MoveOn Ad Warns Of Bleak, Dystopic Corporate Future If Republicans Win In 2010 (VIDEO)

First Posted: 10/25/10 07:01 PM ET   Updated: 05/25/11 07:05 PM ET

MoveOn.org has released an edgy, technologically innovative get-out-the-vote ad depicting a bleak dystopia run by a group called "RepubliCorp," meant to underscore the high stakes in the 2010 elections.

The customizable video speaks directly to the viewer and features actress Olivia Wilde (TRON: Legacy, The Next Three Days and "House, M.D.") and actor Romany Malco (40 Year Old Virgin and "Weeds"), as rebel fighters living in the year 2057. They are fighting an evil merger of the Republican Party and big corporations that is ruling the world. The characters warn people that they are essentially creating this future if they don't turn out and vote.

"If Americans don't want their country turned into RepubliCorp, they need to vote," said Wilde. "Since the Supreme Court has decided to allow corporations to buy elections, we felt a life-like, reality-based video from the future is exactly what progressives need to realize how much is at stake November 2nd."

MoveOn sent the ad to its five million members today.

It's targeted. It's funny. It will shake up voters and get them in the booths.

It's kitschy, but effective. I think it is pretty damn awesome actually.

Well our politicians are already bought and paid for by meagacorporations.

This isn't entertainment folks. We really are in trouble. We're living in an "Oligarchy" that is becoming "Fascist." It's up to the younger generation to make the difference. If they don't vote for freedom (and I don't mean the spin Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld garbage) and our Constitution (which has been damaged), it's over!

Very creative and clever. Especially the name of the daily newsletter from Boehner.

Agreed. That was one funny video, and I would say so even if it were a Tea Party ad with the terms inverted.

But, of course, I'll never be forced to put my money where my mouth is merely because the Tea Party is utterly without humor (at least of the intentional kind).

Move On said something.....who cares?

This video is insulting to all Americans. Its a total waste of money and time. These idiots should have spent the time and money helping the needy. I'm so tired of seeing this garbage geared towards 12 year old boys who don't know any better. Are people really this dumb to get anything at all from watching that? What a load of crap.

How exactly is this insulting to Americans? Are we not becoming more and more fascists on a daily basis? Has Corporate America not sold a load of conservative "small government" crap. You seem to fail to recognize that a small, powerless government has created a power vacuum into which moved the corporations. And since we were once the government and abdicated our responsibility to be informed and vote, we gave it away. That is what this ad is saying. Insulting? I think not!

MoveOn is about as relevant as the rotary dial telephone and 8-track tapes and this video was easily the lamest poorly written and unfunny political ad ever. Republicorp? No mention of Obama in the back pocket of rich corporate executives?

October 21, 2010: "Obama’s Bay Area trip was originally to include a fundraiser at the Four Seasons Hotel in San Francisco, but the event host, Google executive Marissa Mayer, moved the $30,000-a-plate private dinner to her Palo Alto home.... "http://www.californiabeat.org/2010/10/21/obama-to-visit-bay-area-thursday-for-democratic-fundraisers

"Reports indicate the visit scored big for the party, with a hefty $1.8 million expected to be raised.
Obama's first stop was a meeting with Apple Chief Executive Steve Jobs...."

Aw, C'mon. This is satire. I found it amusing, not scary. RepubliCorp? I think I'll start using that today.

The stories RepubliCorp (see?) tells are designed to instill fear. If you didn't find this ad funny, you either need to get an education, or just get out more.

It may very well be satire, but it is still a fear tactic.

That's one thing this video failed on. Democrats and Republicans are the same thing, much like CNN and Fox News. 2 heads but both extend from 1 body like a 2-headed dragon. Republicrats.

Wow, I just watched the video through my Facebook page.

Really well done.

I'm not sure how they did it, but they put your name and face into the message. This is how you connect to the American people. Nice job

LOL, this is pretty pathetic.

Although I have to say, Sarah Palin ages pretty well. She doesn't look a day older in 2020.

The fear, in this case, is real. It isn't some drummed up faux outrage. This is what will happen to our country should republicans gain control.
06:26 PM on 10/26/2010
I actually thought the add was kinda lame regardless who produced it and why they produced I would think they could do better
06:15 PM on 10/28/2010
Disagree this will happen if Democrats or Republicans REMAIN in control. There is no difference.

Don't confuse fantasy with reality.

Americans who acknowledge reality, vote Democratic
04:41 AM on 10/27/2010
Indeed, reality has a liberal bias, to quote a great thinker.

Americans who acknowledge reality, vote Ron Paul.
