Tompkins Square Park Halloween Dog Parade (PHOTOS)

Dog owners around the city got a leg up on Halloween yesterday at the 20th Annual Tompkins Square Park Halloween Dog Parade. Revelers arrived toting dolled up pups in full regalia, everything from biker terriers to Lady Gaga pugs. The annual Village Parade is this Sunday, but if you can't wait that long to see your neighbors in funny outfits, click through the photos below.

I liked Jackie O and the Biker Dogs...thought they made sense for some reason. A couple of Shnauzers (dont care enough to look up how you spell it) would have looked just as good as ZZ Top though..

The personification of dogs; frivolity a la New York City. It's not that I don't have a sense of humor, but most of these "animal lovers" will at some point during the week have themselves a pork chop or two, completely undeterred by the horrific treatment farm animals are subjected to, and unaware that pigs are more intelligent and more emotionally developed than dogs. For some reason we've concluded that dogs, above all animals, deserve a seat at the dinner table. Bah, humbug.

Number twenty-two, the Dude (Hippie dog) is my fav because that's what dogs really are. You might think it's funny to dress up a hapless dog like a Bishop, but i think it's a sacrilege against dog nature.

Our dog loved to sashay around when we put a bow around her neck (only indoors and only supervised since she didn't go out dressed). It was the only time she acted coy---hysterical!

My cat loves to wear his sweater or his polo shirt--he purrs his fool head off.

It was a great time.
I was at the event this weekend taking photos.
My favorite was the Lady Gaga dog wearing a meat sweater.
Still..there were more people this weekend at the Halloween Dog Parade watching little doggies dress up in funny costumes than there were people watching "Tea Party Patriots" dress up in funny old Revolutionary War costumes at the April 15th anti-tax Tea Party event.
