WASHINGTON (AP) — Sen. John McCain is calling Sarah Palin an "outstanding candidate" for the Republican presidential nomination in 2012, but says it's too early to endorse her.

McCain told CBS's "The Early Show" Tuesday that "I don't think Sarah would want me to, before she's even able to make a decision" about running. (Scroll down for video)

The Arizona Republican said "it's very early to start picking winners and losers." He said he still holds his 2008 running mate "in high regard" and said he's been amused by the former Alaska governor's confrontations with "the liberal media."

Palin has been active in the campaign, raising money, throwing her support behind a host of tea party-backed conservative Republicans and giving speeches around the country.

Exactly which of John McCain's rapidly emergent multiple personalities refused to endorse the "woman he couldn't be more proud of?"

John McTrain has gone off the tracks.

He survived five reported plane crashes or as he calls them "hard landings."
He survived five years of regular beatings, horrible food and minimal medical care as a Viet Cong prisoner of war.

The 2010 elections are over now, McCain only needed Sarah for the reelection. Kiss and make up is done and he is kicking that dummy back to the curb until she is needed again.... What a couple of fools...

Run Sarah Run! Think of all the money we could save in the DNC if you run!? I think you should chose Michael Steele as your running mate.

Why would he endorse someone who hasn't announced she's running yet? For all we know, she may want to be party chair rather than President. I know who won't be getting McCain's endorsement, though- Mitt Romney. He burned too many bridges.

Having inflicted the palin plague on the country, McCain has no credibility in the US. Who could possibly care who he endorses?

I think that McCain has found a new running mate for his 2012 Presidential rebound - it's Sharron Angle. They have so much in common.

Yeah, Sarah is having a hard time deciding when would be the best time for her to quit if she were elected.

Why should he? McCain wants to run again in 2012 with Rick Perry as running mate.

Interestingly enough, Perry wants to run with Palin in 2012.

The GOP candidates. LOL

I'm sorry but people that support her can't see the forest for the trees.

The MAIN reason that McCain chose her as his running mate was to win over female voters who supported Hillary Clinton. His campaign staff, and the RNP thought that women voters would look at that woman as a sufficient substitute, and vote for her rather than Obama.

As if any of us were stupid enough to fall for that, and think that woman is competent enough to be VP of the Wasilla PTA, let alone the USA...

John McCain will never be forgiven for introducing that whirlwind of a disaster into the American political scene. Screw you John McCain.

OMG Sarah really thinks she is qualified to be President? And other people take her seriously?

That is seriously disturbing. Sarah Palin is clearly incompetent, but she's too blinded by her passing fame to realize her own ineptitude - a stunning, textbook example of the Dunning-Kruger effect in action.

"Outstanding Candidate."

Bah.

The guy is hedging.

Palin is neither.
