Exmoor Emperor ALIVE? Britain's Largest Animal May Not Have Been Gunned Down

New rumors circulating in the British town of Exmoor say that the gigantic red stag known as the "Exmoor Emperor" was not killed during a trophy hunt as was previously reported, says the Daily Mail.

The massive creature was reported to have been killed by bounty hunters vying for the over $1500 dollar price put on his head. The Guardian said that the magnificent deer had been killed legally. However, the lack of photographic evidence and anecdotal reports of sightings have caused doubt among some locals. Lesley Prior, a local farmer in the town of Oakford, told the Daily Mail:

The animal has been seen regularly after the time he was supposedly shot near Rackenford.

I live less than three miles from where this beast was supposedly shot two weeks ago.

My builder, who lives five miles away on Exmoor, was telling me a few days ago that the stag had been in his garden last week.

If the Emperor lives, he would retain his crown as the widely acknowledged "largest wild animal" in Britain, standing nearly 9 feet tall and weighing in at 300 pounds.
