Avec Reopens Today After August Tragedy

The popular downtown restaurant, Avec, reopened today after months of renovations--and an August tragedy.

Chicago firefighter Christopher Wheatley was killed while fighting the blaze at 615 W. Randolph St., which severely damaged the restaurant.

But Avec hopes to move past the tragedy. Today's revamped menu includes olive oil-poached fish in a Mason jar, housemade blood sausage and more, The Stew reports. The restaurant has also added a massive six-burner Vulcan stove.

Avec first opened in October of 2003.
