Halloween Celebrations Around The World (PHOTOS)

First Posted: 10/29/10 12:18 PM ET   Updated: 05/25/11 07:10 PM ET

Though originally a Celtic pagan holiday, Halloween celebrations have become massively popular across the globe, from throughout most of continental Europe to the Far East.

These days, it's not just Americans and Brits who will don eerie outfits, elaborate masks and festive garb -- you'll now find happy haunts of all ages in cities throughout Germany, South Korea and even Pakistan on Oct. 31, out to satisfy a sweet tooth or even cause a little mischief on the streets.

Take a look at how some other nations are getting into the spooky spirit here:

When I was a young girl in Europe (in the 1960's) no one celebrated Halloween. We were so envious of the American kids!

Well, I guess this holiday is taking over the world. Fun!

In Italy, we had a “night of witches”. The night of San Giovanni, on 24 of June. In Rome we used to wear garlic, eat snails and much more. Nobody or few do this now, but many children ring the bell for Halloween, ask for pumpkins and candies.

No picture for the US or South America? Oh well, it doesn't matter now. I am not celebrating it anyway.

I think they'd do it for Purim.

Other countries dress up for Carnivale, Mardi Gras or Fasching.

I think we are the only country that sends out children door to door to beg candy from strangers. And threaten them if they don't pay our sweet extortion.

How very American of us.

I live in South Korea. Everland is pretty sweet around Halloween.

I think the Japanese will just take any excuse to dress up in a crazy costume, which is why I love them.

I love the look of the South Koreans! Now, that look is what represents Halloween to me. No cutsie scarecrows, and smiling pumpkins. Symbols of Halloween should look as evi l and haunting as possible.

Do you wear burlap and walk on nails to amend for America's sins? Geez. Relax.

Mr. Fun, what do you give the kids when they come around yours, a lecture and an organic carrot?
