Donovan McNabb Benched In Loss To Lions

McNabb BENCHED

Down 31-25 to the Detroit Lions with 1:45 remaining on Sunday, Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan benched Donovan McNabb for backup quarterback Rex Grossman.

"I felt with the time, with no timeouts, Rex gave us the best chance to win in that scenario," Shanahan explained. He also reportedly said Grossman was more familiar with the team's 2-minute offense.

On the first play from their own 30-yard-line, Grossman fumbled the ball and Detroit's rookie Ndamukong Suh recovered it and returned it for a touchdown.

"When you get benched, you get benched. Just have to learn from it and move on," McNabb reportedly said after the game. "I continue to focus as if I'm the starter. He said I'm still the starter."

Washington has stated that McNabb will still be the starter, according to ProFootballTalk.

The Lions beat the Redskins 35-27.
