William Curl Needs Psychiatric Exam, Lawyer Says

Posted: Updated:

SYCAMORE, Ill. — A public defender has requested a psychiatric examination of a 34-year-old DeKalb man accused of killing a Northern Illinois University freshman.

Public Defender Regina Harris did not explain to the DeKalb County Circuit Court Monday why she was requesting the examination of William Curl.

Curl has been charged with first-degree murder in the killing of Antinette "Toni" Keller last month. The 18-year-old Keller was last seen about noon Oct. 14 when friends said the art student was headed to a park and nature preserve near the university.

The charges have been filed against Curl even though the burnt human remains found Oct. 16 haven't been positively identified as Keller's.

Curl is being held at the county jail in lieu of $5 million bond.
