DENVER (AP) -- Denver residents have jettisoned a plan to officially track space aliens.

The proposal defeated soundly Tuesday night would have established a commission to track extraterrestrials. It also would have allowed residents to post their observations on Denver's city Web page and report sightings.

Early results show Denver residents voted 106,776-20,162 against the proposal.

The Denver man who proposed the measure, Jeff Peckman, says the government is tracking alien sightings but refuses to make the reports public. Peckman is a meditation instructor and promoter of new technology, including something he says reduces the "chaos of electromagnetic fields."

Peckman contends opponents greatly inflated the commission's projected cost.

He previously proposed an unsuccessful ordinance requiring the city to offer stress-reduction measures.

I've been hoping to see a UFO for fifty years and once I thought I did. It turned out to be a reflection of my own headlights. Darn!!

Try the San Luis Valley--seriously. It's an area known for test flights of secret aircraft (the Stealth bomber scared the krapp out of some residents when they saw it well before it was officially unveiled).

After all, a UFO does not have to be of extraterrestrial origin.

I lived in Denver briefly (1975-6) and I remember encountering members of a church that was waiting for a flying saucer to appear. I worked for a local bookstore that Christmas (a nice little place on Larimer Square, the name escapes me now). I recall one of the best-selling titles being the Urantia Book. So none of this surprises. I think Denver just feels itself a little bit closer to outer space than the rest of us.

The Administration would have challenged this law as they did with SB1070. Illegal aliens are a Federal responsibility!
