Chris Matthews, Joe Scarborough Clash Repeatedly On 'Morning Joe' (VIDEO)

MATTHEWS V. SCARBOROUGH: Chris: You're A Faux Populist; Joe: You're A 'Caricature'

Chris Matthews and Joe Scarborough got into a series of testy exchanges on Wednesday's "Morning Joe."

Matthews was one of the guests for a special edition of the program, which was filmed before a live audience in the wake of Tuesday's midterm elections.

Scarborough asked Matthews to talk about Senator-elect Rand Paul, a Tea Party Republican from Kentucky. Matthews called Paul "the real thing" in terms of his political convictions.

"That speech last night was a cri de guerre," he continued, adding that Paul was the "actual essence of Goldwaterism."

Scarborough said that he agreed with Matthews, even though he had "no idea what that French phrase means."

"Is this part of the effort to somehow try to suggest that you're part of the people?" Matthews shot back.

"What do you mean?" Scarborough replied, looking surprised and saying that he truly had not understood Matthews.

Matthews wondered aloud if Scarborough was trying to cover up the fact that he knew what the phrase meant because he did not want to appear overtly intellectual.

"My god, you guys are on edge!" Scarborough said, exasperated. "I'm sorry I don't know a fourth language!"

"You know Spanish, right?" Matthews replied. "For political reasons." This prompted co-host Mika Brzezinski to exclaim, "Oh my god!" and Scarborough to label Matthews a "caricature" of himself.
